Yahoo headers in a mail provide two IP address but on querying them I found out they were IP address of the mail service provider's server. I know the next time my friend logs in his IP will change but what I really need to know from which city he mailed me from and for that I need to know the IP of the computer from which the mail had originated

hi-it's really hard to do an accurate IP check anymore--if they have AOL-the address always changes
there are a lot of companies out there now that are the same.

you can *usually* narrow it down to a city or two though.

Typically the header contains the originating IP address. Usually the last "received from" IP that is listed. They usually go backwards. Depending on the mail software it's sometimes obvious which one is the originating IP. Though mail headers are relatively easy to forge and frequently malformed in the process of delivery.

Inputting that IP into an nslookup or whois will give you the provider info.
