Ok I have a new modem it is a SpeedStream 5360 Ethernet ADSL Modem from AT&T. the problem that i think it is, is that the ethernet light in the back of the computer is off, but the modem is on. As a matter of fact the modem doesn't work. I tried with my other modem that is a 4100 ADSL and the back light turns on, but with the 5360 doesn't, what would it be? (please help because I need to repair a computer asap)

Dude ... if one works and the other doesn't ... think a bit.
The new modem possibly has a problem and isn't actually sending a signal. So .... thinking here, the 5360 is broken ... why not send it back for a replacement that works and in the meantime use the old one

well if works with the old one and not the new one then u would think the glitch is with the new one. Could be wiring?? .Maybe try unplug the modem for 6 min and try seeing if it will work. if not u probably will have to take it in and get a different one. Call ur ISP

It could be that every piece of hardware has a distinct mac address. I would imagine that the DHCP server on your ISP is not giving you an ip address because it doesn't recognize the different mac address - this is a security thing for them. Call tech. support and ask them to clear the mac address for you if they can.
