I have just moved my desktop from ADSL to a LAN network to allow me to surf wirelessly on my laptop. However, for some reason the internet now refuses to open certain pages. Is LAN slower than ADSL or is it still a result of the slow internet following last week's earthquake in Asia?

Your question needs to be clearer.
Did you have ADSL access through USB and now through Ethernet?
Or now you are using wifi? (you mentionned a laptop...)

Anyway, Ethernet connection should not slow your access to the Internet. Ethernet is typically 100 Mb/s.

You can't really compare LAN and ADSL.
ADSL connects your modem to Internet
LAN connects your pc to your modem.

Now if your LAN is wifi, then it can be slower than your ADSL connection if behind a thick wall for example. So wifi LAN can be your bottleneck.

I use ADSL and I live in Asia too. I miss the stateside internet connection that I had, but I have to take what I get out here.

I surf wirelessly with my ADSL on my laptop. I don't have any problems with opening certain pages. Do you think it might just be your anti-virus blocking or you might need an internet booster for your wireless?
