How do I secure my router's wireless internet connection?

Question

I am not super savvy with this stuff so the more detailed you can be that would really make this easier on me. I currently have a unsecured wireless connection and I would like to secure it so that I will have a network key that keep people off my system. I got so many piggybackers I am loosing bandwidth. Please help!

I don't know if this will make a difference but it is a netgear WGR614 and all my computers run XP.

when u install the router software, it must say u want to put password in or not. If you have not change password or username. then your user name must be " admin" and your password is " password"
