Believe me, Windows knows all. Go to Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware and Device Manager. Check out the various components under Drivers.

By trying to load it in the application's home directory, and if that fails, by trying to load it from Window's directory. If it's still not there, it checks the registry, and if still not there, declare an error.
