I am wanting to have wireless Internet for my laptop, but I do not have a desktop. As I am sure you are aware, I am not very computer savy. I would imagine that I could just get a wireless router and hook it directly to a modem. Is this the case? Can you suggest a good wireless router, and is it possible to get a router that would send a signal 100 yards? Like for instance, so my neighbors could pick up the signal.

ok, I have a really weak internet signal, want to boost it so what I was planning is to hook my parents computer up with a wireless adapter that the other comptuers have. Move the "Wireless ADSL modem" to a different, central location in the house and hook it up to the phone line.

Would this idea work so that everyone has a fairly decent internet connection, even though the wireless modem isn't hooked up to a PC? Also, I've heard that it needs to be joined up to a computer to process the account information, which is inportant to our isp. That true?

It's a cox cable modem. It has 1 port for ethernet, 1 for USB.

so does it mean , 2 users can connect if one user uses Ethernet, and the other uses USB?

We used to do it when my sister lived here. But she left and i never knew what type of connection she set up..

But basically. It's a cable modem with only one hole to plug in an ethernet cable to.

We have a PC NOtebook computer and a Mac.. Is there a little thing you could purchase to plug into the ethernet port in the modem and then this thing has 2 or more ethernet ports?

Is this what you would call a network hub??? and does it work for what i need?

thanks

I already tried ipconfig/release and then renew.... I get this error message "An error ocurred while renewing interface Wirless Network Connection. The PC server is unavailable. Another note is that when I go to the Network Connections icon I can see the Wireless Connection Icon and it keep saying "Acquiring Network Address" then when I click view other wireless network it says "Windows cannot configure this wirelesss connection"
