What is so hard about following the setup instructions that come with every new piece of equipment made.

If by chance yours was purchased second hand or you lost the manuals, goto the manufacturers website and download them.

Set up the router first. The CD from CISCO has dead easy instructions... no manual needed.
However, once you have the router up, you will have to go into the config area to define an additional access point. You will have to read the manual since there is no easy way to do it. The router will have to be configured using the web page access using the guide IP address. Make sure you change your password from the default. You will eventually have to choose the WEP.WPA and other options for the Router, and the access point will need setting up too.But the codes you use, since it can generate 128 bit and more encryption, need to be fixed up. But first thing to do is set up router, then test the access point, then change the Access point encryption and test those.
If you get locked out just do a reset and you can start again, but if you get everything done well, save your cfg file onto a usb drive and keep for handy use. Update the firmware as well, its very handy

1st take the AP back and get another router, they are a complete waste of money when a router can perform the same function for a lot less money...
