At my house, we have two computers connected over one wired router. There is a Canon printer connected to one of the computers. When I try to make the other PC add it to its printer list, the printer doesn't appear on the list, even though I click "make available over network." What can I do???

Also, when we put documents in our Shared Folders, the other computer isn't able to see it.

???????

I've got a network set up in my house and my main desktop PC upstairs in the attic has my music and movie collection on it, with all the files in shared folders.

I like to be able to access these files on my laptop in the living room. Is there any way that I can set it up so that my desktop PC automatically powers on when I try to access files on it from my laptop PC? And then is there any way to shut it down again when I'm finished to save power?

I found this question in Tanenbaun's book of Computer Networks.

"How many end office codes were there pre-1984, when each end office was named by its three-digit area code and the first three digits of the local number?Area Codes started with a digit in the range 2-9, had a 0 and 1 as the second digit, and ended with any digit. The first two digits of a local number were always in the range 2-9. The third digit could be any digit. "

I don't think I even understand the question; therefore, I would appreciate any kind of help

I am hooking up two computers to one network and they are going to be sharing a DSL internet connection. I know you need a wireless router and a wireless adapter. I have been told that newer computers already have a network adapter. My computer is about 2 years old. Where would I find it? On the back, inside the CPU? I think I may have found it but not sure. There is a green phone jack at the bottom (back of CPU) that says LINE and it's connected to a card. Could that be it? If I already have the network adapter that means I don't need a wireless adapter, right? Thanks for all the help. :)

I have a dell laptop that i want to connect to a wireless internet connection and share with my desktop. do you know what i need to do this or a website that explains everything in plain english? i have a dsl connection thru our local phone company. could you also tell me the purpose of a usb network adapter and if i need one to go with the router for a wireless connection. Also, my desktop only has usb connections and not ethernet connections. Dell told me that i would have to get a usb to ethernet converter in order for it to work. Do you know if that is true and where can i buy one? Thanks.
