Connect them both to LAN ports on the router. Make sure they're members of the same Workgroup. Share the folders that contain files that you want to share between the machines.

attempt a diverse port on the router...or...is your ethernet card lifeless a fashion or the different? Is the ethernet cable known to be sturdy? consistent with danger it extremely is not plugged in each and each of ways or there is crud entering into between the contacts. or maybe, the router is a fashion or the different set to no longer enable an ethernet connection by skill of default. which would be backward from mine...my instant connection grow to be disabled by skill of default.

Of course you can connect them...

Do you know the IP addresses of them both?

In one computer (it doesn't matter which)... make a share on a drive (the C: drive for instance... or any other). You can do this htrough Windows explorer, right click and select sharing. As an example, say you share it as 'myshare'

You may have to enable sharing of files and printers if you are using XP.

On the other one, connect the shared drive as follows:

In Windows Explorer, use 'Tools' menu... then 'map Network Drive'. Specify the share as \\\myshare and use any drive letter you want... accept the default unless you have reason not to.

As example you would put something like \\192.168.10.2\myshare (all on one line if it breaks when you read it).

Then your computer would have a 'new' drive that is actually on the other computer and you can copy and paste files between the drives just as normal.

You can choose to have your computer re-make the share next time it connects... or you can disconnect it when you are done.

There are other ways in Windows, buit that's the one I use.

What you need is a strip of Ethernet cable, so that you can plug one end into your desktop PC and the other into your laptop. What you then do is go into the start menu of the computer you want to transfer files to, open up the control panel, click "Network Connections" and make a network.

If you have windows, your computer will direct you a lot better than I can, but that's the basis of what you need to do. :)

If the computers are already attached to the router, all you have to do is "share" the folder you want to transfer. Right click on the folder and tell it to share.
