I found it wrapped in a cloth at back of a cupboard in the garage.... must have been there years. I don't have a hex key for it... I worked it open by hand.

Is it a medieval car jack/lift or something else please? Could it be for brake maintenance?

Thanks if you can advise. :) (g2g back to work.. will hopefully find out answer in a few hours when I get back - thanks)

I own a vehicle with approximately 100,000 miles on the car. My clutch going out is about do and it has started to slip somewhat whenever I pull off the line. While I fully intend to bring it into the shop to get a replacement, I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how I could extend the life of the clutch for a few thousand miles more?

I checked with the dealer and a few shops around town and they all have quoted me 1000 dollars or more for a replacement.

Hi,

Thankfully it's not my car. :p

http://www.hummertime.co.uk/fuelfilter.jpg

It's a VW Golf IV TDI (Diesel) (European model)

However.. any ideas of what could have caused the fuel filter to get so salty/corroded? I can't work it out... unless perhaps wrong grade of fuel was used regularly which is unlikely.

I'd very much like to have an idea of what might cause it in case the same thing ever happens with my fuel filter.

Thanks. :)

long story short.... 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis just crapped out on on interstate one day. Had it towed to nearest dealership and they said that it was "possibly" a bad oil pump and caused the engine to seize. Warranty was voided due to lack of maintenace receipts (as luck would have it). I don't plan to keep the car cause I already got a new one but you can't really seel a car that doesn't run. So should I have the engine rebuilt or replaced with a rebulit one? I'm afraid to go to a mechanic because I don't want to get bad info. HELP!

I was driving city at night today... Suddenly, I couldn't see anything so I had to stopped side of the road to see my headlights were on... and it wasn't so I put emergency lights on to see what's there. I've been freeway for 30min but I've never pulled over by COPS.
But well...my thing is that I bought this HID kit half year ago... And it just turned off(BOTH), does it mean my bulbs are burned out?

After my car not starting it turns out that the damn thing was just flooded but now i have a new problem. When I press the gas my lights start like blink, but not turning all the way off and coming back on they just dem then lighten repeatedly. When I am in idle its fine but as soon as i start to pressing the gas they start to do the dem blinking thing. It sucks cause I keep thinking that I left my damn blinker on, and it is not just the headlights its in the dashboard, on my tach, and on everything.

my mechanic claims I need new ball joints. It sounds fishy to me. Don't they last longer than that? 65000 mi. I have no unusual wear on the tires, there's no shimmy or unusual handling.

They charged me 12 thousands when i hit a curb with my front tire. now 4 thousands miles later, they tell me that the mount and barrings needs to be replaced again. 300 up to 500 dollars again. I don't think they would go bad that soon and if they did, they should stand behind their parts. they say no. Is there anything I can do to tell if they put new ones in the first time?

I am interested in buying a car on Ebay and in the sellers description it says "THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON FOR THE SPEED SENSOR. "

I have never heard of that, do you think the check engine light could really be on for something else, like a bigger, more expensive problem?

I have a 92 Honda Accord.

I took my car in to get something fixed (I believe it had to do with the fuel filter) and when I got it back, my car now jerks one hard time right before I come to a stop.

What does this mean?

I just finished replacing my intake manifold gasket and I had a misfire problem I fixed thanks to correctly timing it with a yahoo answers user's directions. But after the misfire disappeared I was out test driving my truck. It stumbles a little after taking off from a dead stop (when it's first started) and then gradually smooths out. I figure this is just the PCM re-learning the engine since it hasn't been driven in over 3 months and the battery was disconnected for 2 months. The gas hasn't been changed either for 3 months. And that doesn't really concern me as I can fine tune that. What concerns me is that while I was test driving it, it ran fine under a normal load, so I decided to test it under a hard one. I opened the throttle half way open and the engine reved up and made noise like it was accellerating really fast, but the car itself was moving like it did under a normal load. The speedometer barely climbed any faster. I checked for trouble codes and there are none.
