In my ignorance I thought I could just top off the a/c with R134, not realizing it was and R-12 system (yes I know, stupid). So in the process it seems as though I drained all the R-12 out but of course none of the R134 went in. Needless to say it no longer worked after that. I then did some research on converting the system myself, and bought a kit at Wal-Mart. I didn't think I'd need to take it to a shop to have any R-12 drained, so I just tried it. Another mistake I made is that I didn't take out the valve stem on the low end when I was trying to pump the R134 in. So I took it out and screwed on the 134 adaptor again, tried pumpin some more 134, to no avail.

I'm hoping this makes sense. Any ideas?

i have just been told my head gasket is blown on my 1.6 petrol 1991 golf driver but quote from people have been in the hundereds. i have various website from vw parts saying gasket sets can be bought for 30ish so whats the deal with the expensive quotes? is it just all labour costs? what would it involve a garage doing? is there any other way to get my car running without overheating and blowing steam everywhere. its not even worth 200 itself so i wont be paying that to fix it.

I just got the fender and headlight lamp replaced and painted, now I'm about to sell my car and wanted to wash it first. It was painted 3 days ago, but I heard you should wait awhile because the soap could mess up the paint.

When driving, sometimes at different speeds or while braking, the steering wheel starts to shimmy and shake. Does this have to do with brakes, worn tires, alignment, or something else? It is a 2005 Honda Civic and only has about 25,000 miles on it. Any suggestions on where to start to avoid paying someone else to tell me what is going on?

I was trying to connect my already installed amp to my interior speakers. I made a few wiring mistked during the process. I had the car turned on atthe time and when I did something wrong the car will rev w/ black smoke. Since then, my A/c and wiper doesnt want to work. The fuses are good, and power is running to the A/c and wiper. I have even removed the amp and it still doesnt work. Have I done something to the electrical system of the car. the first couple of days, the wiper and a/c will work when it wants to, now the wiper doesnt and the a/c blows extremely low. Thanks.

Hi. I was driving my Altima last night and the engine shut off while I was sitting at a light and I couldn't get it started again. So, I had to push it off the road. There was over a quarter tank of gas, so I know I had plenty of gas. I kinda smelled a gas smell or something coming out of the car. The funny thing is, when I went to start it this morning, it started fine and I was able to get it home. My question is, does anyone know some of the things that might be causing this issue. Going to take it into the shop on Monday and I want be prepared for what they tell me. Thank you.

Three weeks ago, I had an alignment done on a 1997 Saab, 112K mi. I also asked them to straighten the steering wheel since it had been off about 10 degrees ever since I had shocks & springs replaced two years ago. I waited for it and when it was ready, they said they got the steering wheel as straight as possible but I would need to replace the tie rod ends and adjusting screws to get it perfect. Alignment is better, vibration I had is gone and steering wheel is straight. But I just got under it today and noticed that they had completely rounded off the hex area of both screws and damaged several of the threads on one of them. It bothered me because the car is in great shape and I really take care of it. Even if the screws were seized and difficult to turn, is this something I should overlook?

I have been told a emissions test for diesels in the UK only tests for smoke or particulates, Is this correct? I am tuning my 530d and want to improve performance by fitting a bypass instead of the catalyst, but still want it to pass the mot without the hassle of fitting it back for the mot every year.

I just realised that my car's brake tail lights are not working and only the middle light emits. Is it easy to fix this problem? because I think it could just be some loose wirings...

Okay, I have this '77 Chevy El Camino. well it is my husbands. but I am driving it while he is overseas right now. anyway, exactly one month ago I had to take it to my mechanic as the battery was not good in it along with a few other things. but now the battery is dead, and I bought a brand new battery. Should the battery have gone dead after only one month? Could there be something else maybe draining the battery? like possibly the alternator? or something else?

We have a '96 cadillac with a north star engine. For some reason it keeps over heating all the time. We are constantly putting antifreeze in it but it must be leaking cause it just isnt working. We took it in to the shop and they fixed the thermostate and it wasnt that because it is still doing it. The guy said it might be the head gasket but they dont fix them there. The thing is I thought if it was the head gasket it would start smoking.

I'm looking to replace the pcv valve on my 1993 Ford Ranger. It's a 4-cylinder, but has 2 distributors and 8 spark plugs (Ford's answer to fuel economy).

My book says it's on the left side of the engine in the oil separator. What's an oil separator? Is the left side of the engine the passenger side?

Thanks,
Sean

My 99 ford taurus with 98xxx miles started leaking transmission fluid when the car is put in reverse. Checked under the car looked like the pan was bent, fixed that, and put in some anti-leak fluid. The fluid level is fine with the car not running, but shows almost empty when running. Any ideas? Is the resevoir tank just low or is there maybe a leak Im not finding? Anyway, Im having it looked at tuesday, just wanted to get yalls opinion. Thanks!!!!!

I have a 4.3 v6 engine that i have lightly modified. Such as K&N cold air induction kit, throttle body spacer, underdrive pulleys, headers, edelbrock heavy duty water pump, flowmaster dual exhaust, and a high 160amp alternator. I am afraid that if i put in a cam the engine will some how go all out of wack such as timing and every thing. What does the cam do? How will it affect my engine?

I drove it home with no problems. Before I got home, I filled the tank up and stopped at the bank. I left the car running, but when I got in to take off, it stopped. I waited awhile before it started again. It kept stopping en route home. Once parked it wouldn't start again. There is no clicking sound; it doesn't "catch". Everything shuts off. i have oil in it, but I don't think it's enough. My anti-freeze reservoir is very close to bone dry. There was never any smoke. The car didn't shake. It jerked after being stopped before going. I suspect the alternator but I want to be sure. Any suggestions, hints, thoughts?

I'm thinking about buying a K&N filter for my 1995 escort (1.9 liter). K&N claims that their filters improve performance and gas mileage. I also know that they can be washed and reused many times. If you use one of these filters, please tell me about your experiences with them.

I have a 92 Pontiac Firebird, and yesterday after it sat, parked for almost 2 hours, I started it, it ran for a second or two, then it died. I tried to restart it, and there was nothing, not even the sound of it trying to start. I had lost all power. I tried several times to restart it, but still nothing. I called Triple A,and the guy tried everything, he checked the battery, it had a full charge.
( the battery was brand new) I had also just gotten this car out of the shop the day before, and brakes and an oil leak were fixed, spent lots and lots of money!) The Triple A mechanic said something about it possibly being a "main fuse"..and said he didn't think he should put one in, as it could do some harm if that wasn't the problem, We agreed that it had to be towed, so I waited for the tow truck. Shortly after the Triple A mechanic left, ( and before the tow truck came, ) I tried to start it, and it started. i drove home with the car. It has started several times since,

if they burn-out short we may face with shunt alternator with battery and within some seconds when engine is not running we face with complete burn-out of alternator as well as charging connector.

The black rubber which seals seems to be wearing thin around the rear-seat windows. I can see some areas where the rubber looks to have worn.. probably from water channelling around on the bottom of the rubber.

Those rear-seat windows don't open at all... they are just housed in place by the black rubber.... but water seems to have worn it in places.. and it's dry and looking like it could thin out in places. It's a VW Golf MKIV 2003.

Is there any sort of lubrication I could apply to the black rubber to better protect it from water... to make it less likely the black rubber will rot away in coming years?
