My 99 ford taurus with 98xxx miles started leaking transmission fluid when the car is put in reverse. Checked under the car looked like the pan was bent, fixed that, and put in some anti-leak fluid. The fluid level is fine with the car not running, but shows almost empty when running. Any ideas? Is the resevoir tank just low or is there maybe a leak Im not finding? Anyway, Im having it looked at tuesday, just wanted to get yalls opinion. Thanks!!!!!

Must check fluid level with engine/trans @ operating temp - idling in PARK on a level surface.

Unless Ford has invented another "better idea", the fluid level should be checked with the car running, and up to normal operating temperature, and after running through the gears. Only after the fluid has had a chance to circulate, should the level be checked.
If it shows "almost empty" when running, then it probably is.

Upon checking the level of the tranny fluid, what was its color? If its brown or dull looking, then more and likely the fuid has been overheated, and burnt. Also, the smell of the fluid is a tell tale sign that the tranny is burnt up. How many miles are on your car, will also point to possibly needing a transmission being replaced. Hope these help some.

It is low on fluid. Check and fill with engine running and trans in park. If fluid is cold, fill to lowest mark/hole on stick and drive car til at normal operating temp then recheck and fill to hot full mark.
