sounds like the bulbs are bad. just change the bulbs first if you cant find them go to a parts store and get a manual on the type of car you have.

You can either access them through the trunk or you may have to remove the housing by removing the nuts from inside the trunk and then changing the bulbs once the housing is in hand. Have a buddy press the brake pedal while you see if the bulb changes work. You can also have a bad ground, unless the turn signals work and they share the same bulb filament.

well it is possible that both of the bulbs are burnt out ,change a bulb and see if it lights when you step on the brake, if not good luck, its not the break switch because you said the high stop lamp is working.this happened to my daughters car and it was the bulbs because women don't really take notice of this type of thing. OK ladies I'm ready to be beat up if you like

It depends on the car itself, you might be able to unscrew the lens cover and your bulb socket is right there, some models you can get to them by going into the trunk. there may be two or more bulbs each one has it's own wiring socket. just make sure it's not rusted. But some models are very difficult just to get to the bulbs. I knew a guy who almosy had to take off his bumper just to get to the bulb.

i would first check the fuse. i dont think its the sending unit under the dash, because the 3rd brake light wouldnt work, check the ground, run a piece of covered wire from the side of the bulb to a good ground and see if the work, it might be a bad ground.

a fuse is one logical concept however the brake lamp change is what i could verify next. it would be fixed to the lever which you progression which incorporate your foot. if that grew to alter into unplugged, it may flow away the lighting fixtures furniture off.

Replace the bulbs. Depending on what model of vehicle you have, either access them though the trunk or remove the lens.
