the whole entire fuel system will need to be flushed out on it and it re-filled with good fuel ,you might get lucky and it not do any damage, but it usually does, and if i were you id hold them responsible, the cost on this could turn out to be enormous, but id take it to a shop and have them give me an estimate of the cost of straitening this out,it will have messed certain things up in it,and they will have to be replaced.but they should be responsible for all of the repair cost.good luck on it.

First of all you are fortunate that the van did not explode, so count your blessings.
Diesel is a lubricating fluid whereas petrol is exactly the opposite .... you have probably damaged virtually all your internal moving parts .... pistons, liners, rings, bearings, etc. I think a major rebuild is going to be called for ... the petrol station probably bears some responsibility too.

I`m surprised it ran that long due to the fact gas needs a spark to ignite.Drain the gas out . Put new fuel in it. Disconnect fuel line at engine . Turn key to run mode not start. Fuel pump will run for about 5 seconds and shut off. Do this about 5 times and this will purge your fuel line. Reconnect fuel line Start engine probably run like crap for few but will straighten it`s self out in a few. Should be no damage done to the vehicle you just made a race car out of it for a few miles

Well, if your lucky, it just stopped because gas needs a spark plug to ignite it and diesel uses glow plugs. Drain the entire fuel system, including replacing the fuel filters. You need to get the fuel out of the cylinders too. I'd sure make the garage were it happened do it cuz it's gonna cost some $$ to get it done.

Youre engine will be ok in most cases especially on a newish car. Get someone with the right tools to come out and flush the system and pump the tank. Not many people know this but use some high octain fuel for the next few fills to help clear the engine. As long as it starts ok once its been flushed by the mechanic it shouldnt have caused too much trouble.

you hope that the apprentice has not killed your motor you should take your van back to the place that done this and make them drain the tank on the van and make them do a full service to motor they have to change all filters and flush out your system it can cause damage to your seals and to give a warranty for 12 months on motor in case it has done any damage to it as it is there fault if it has done damage it can cost into the thousands diesel motor parts are very dear and make shore they give full warranty on motor and fuel system pump, injectors, seals, nothing could be worse than driving and your fuel system dies if they won't do anything take it to your consumer affairs

If you drove that far on petrol, it's a fair bet the engine is knackered, in fact I'd be surprised it didn't seize solid. New engine, I'm afraid, plus some very p issed-off bosses!

sorry to hear that bud, misconception: petrol need a spark
diesel is compression ignited not glow plug ignited

if it sounded banging and rough the very least damage would be diesel pump and injectors

you might get away with flushing the system with diesel

You need to get the tank drained properly. Time to get it to the garage. They will need to check all the parts etc to make sure its all working ok. Dont attempt to do it yourself.

i know loads of people who have done this, it will cost you but it needs to bec checked thoroughly.
