Maintenance & Repairs - June 2007

My car has recently started to make a squealing noise when I am driving. It also makes a sound when I am in reverse. When I step on the brake it stops. I looked at other answers and some people said belts and others said brakes. I need a straight answer so that I dont break the bank trying to figure out what it is. I know that the brakes usually make that sound when the brake pads need to be replaced and it is 'metal on metal', but like I said, it only makes the sound if I am stepping on the gas. I really need to figure it out, its loud and very annoying! I want people to look at my car because of the bass coming from it, not the squealing!!

someone told me about extended auto warranties through power shield, and I'm wondering if it's worth the money.

it almost looks to good to be true, they cover "everything" for 600 bucks per year!

thats just over what i pay for car insurance!

http://www.carwarranty.com/whats_covered.asp

would i be better off just putting the 500 a year into a fund to buy a new car/cover repairs?

sure i've had one thing i had to fix that would be covered, and every other "problem' would not be covered ( exhaust system, fuel system)

i'd love to hear from people who have/had the service and have made a claim.

thanks.

It sort of slid forward, luckily there was nothing around or it could have been a nasty accident! Took car back to garage they checked all over apart from taking wheels off, took it for drive etc,not doing it then, but now pulling left and right when braking! I need to know my rights as garage said there was nothing visible, brake machine showed nothing amiss!

New fuel pump, I tried fitting it in many ways but when it lines up with the cam lobe, is seems wobbly, the cam lobe that is, I can hear and feel it jiggle around as the lever on the pump touchs it. As such the pump does not pump when turning over.

Do I have to take my timing cover off and check it out, is there anyway to tighten up the cam lobe from the Hole where the pump goes in? Anyone has any pictures of what the inside looks like or whats going on?

Year: 1988
Make: Lincoln (Ford 302 engine)
Model: Towncar

Sporadically, when driving, my check engine light will turn on and I will lose power from the engine (it feels like the RPM drops significantly, to nothing, or almost nothing) for 2 or 3 seconds, and then everything will be fine again. This happens at any speed between 45 and 75. At first I thought it might be a compression problem in one of the cylinders, but that doesn't make any sence since it is intermittant and I can take the car up to 90, 95 (I'm afraid to take it higher, ;] ).

Anyway, I am thinking it is a bad ignition module (ford is known for those), and it HAS been getting worse since its been getting hotter (it was around 110 today).

However, I have had no problems starting the car (yet).

Do you think my assumption is correct?

Thanks.

I have a 1973 seacamper house boat that my grandfather gave me. My mother told me that the last time he had it on the water was about 20 years ago and it ran great. He never winterized the boat and this is why I believe the engine is locked up. I need some advise on how I can get the thing to turnover.

I took the rubber cover that connects my air filter and my carborator off, to clean out my carborator with carb/choke cleaner, and it was dripping oil. I checked my air filter, and there is oil in that also.

i have found that i have .25 of an amp draw on my battery. there are two fuses that are linked to this draw, and when i pull them the drain stops. one fuse is for the the radio, the other one controls the dome light and some other things. i started to dissconect the radio, but it did not want to move very easily, and i wanted to know if it could be sodered together, or i just wasnt pulling hard enough? it is a factory radio.98 mazda b2500. since i know what fuses are linked to the drain, is there some way of taking my amp meter, and starting from the fuse box , from the point of those fuses track down the problem i was concerned that if i forced the radio connection loose and broke something loose, i might break connection with something needed to operate the truck, or should all wires leading to the radio connection only pertain to the radio, if it just affects the radio , i will do it.my dome light would not go off the other day, so i think part of my problem is connected to that,

I replaced the sensor part # 19E702 as I was geting erratic readings of the outside temperature. This did not solve the problem. Everytime I start the car I get a different reading and as I drive the temperature reading is constantlly changing.
How or what can I do to fix this problem?

i just bought this black Ranger about i'd say 4 months ago.. its a big fixer uper... i replace brake shoe, wheel cylinder, fuil pump, stering coupler flex disc( steering box) and air filter. i know these don't upgrade the engine, but it drives me crazy when i can only go 55-60 on the freeway. because if i got 65 i will be redlining the engine...

Do you know of any thing i can do to make the engine better to make it go faster than 55,60 on the freeway... or anyway i can upgrade the engine???

thanks

2000 mercury sable. Head gasket was just replaced. 2 cylinders are leaking oil. Both have compression and when the plugs were replaced, they did not start to foul until after the car was being driven.
