i have found that i have .25 of an amp draw on my battery. there are two fuses that are linked to this draw, and when i pull them the drain stops. one fuse is for the the radio, the other one controls the dome light and some other things. i started to dissconect the radio, but it did not want to move very easily, and i wanted to know if it could be sodered together, or i just wasnt pulling hard enough? it is a factory radio.98 mazda b2500. since i know what fuses are linked to the drain, is there some way of taking my amp meter, and starting from the fuse box , from the point of those fuses track down the problem i was concerned that if i forced the radio connection loose and broke something loose, i might break connection with something needed to operate the truck, or should all wires leading to the radio connection only pertain to the radio, if it just affects the radio , i will do it.my dome light would not go off the other day, so i think part of my problem is connected to that,

Your dome light has the hot hooked to the bulb and the ground is used to make and break the circuit. The door switches will put a ground on the wire and light the dome light. If the insulation is scraped off then you would always have the ground and the light will stay on. You should also have a door ajar light on the dash.

At any rate, go to autozone and look up the wiring diagram and trace the wiring back to see what is giving you the problem. Hooking the ammeter in series with the battery will let you know when you unhook the problem wire. either that or take the car to an auto electric shop and let them worry about it. good luck

As for the radio plug, there should be some locking clip holding the plug on the socket.

I would disconnect the dome light first and then check to see if the radio is draining the battery.
I would think it was the dome light, they do sometimes short out. Look for a wire that is bad and might be touching the metal making it ground out.

Your radio will draw some power(not sure if 250 milliamps is normal, though) because it maintains the clock display and the presets. The dome light shouldn't, maybe you have a short in it.

I think your starter can also draw off the battery if the solenoid is going bad, are you sure lights, radio, etc..are all off? also doors, hood & trunk are closed good??do a starter draw test on the vehicle....Kragen auto part here in CA would check out the battery & charge system free....Also the Battery might say full charge but could be an old or faulty battery......................

A quarter amp.... .250 isnt that much, and the radio's display is probably doing that, but that small amount of current draw shouldnt kill the battery.

You can buy an Auto book specially for your car at an auto store. Just ask for it. If they don't have it, then they can tell you who has it.
