Nope.
Submerge them in clean engine oil.
Press down on the center top of them repeatedly to bleed the air from them before installing.
ADDED:Do Hydraulic Lifters Need to be Primed with Oil?
Many people mistakenly believe that hydraulic lifters must be soaked in oil overnight and be hand pumped up with a pushrod before installing into a new engine, however this is not necessary. In fact, this could cause the lifter to act as a “solid” and prevent obtaining proper preload. What is very necessary is the priming of the entire engine’s oil system before starting up a new engine for the first time. This is done by turning the oil pump with a drill motor to force oil throughout the entire engine. Crane Cams offers oil pump primers for Chevrolet and Ford engines.

You don't need to prime them if you buy this kit from crane cams, buy an electric drill, remove your distibutor, prime your engine oil system, reintall the distributor, and reset the engine timing.

They should look very much like the hydraulics only no inner moving parts there is still a cam end and a tappet end. There is no setting the lifter but now you have the never ending valve adjustment every time you turn around.

no,just the cup side of them all ways goes up,so the push rods can go in them ,they actually turn in the wall around them by there self when the engine is running other wise they would wear a certain way ,and cause premature failure, but as long as the cup side is up your good to go,good luck on it hope this helps.

It doesn't matter. They are supposed to rotate anyway. You should put some moly lube on the bottom or on the cam.
