first off people need to pay attention and read the story
second removing the cover will not make it faster air from the out side of the vehicle is channeled into the air box and then through the filter it does this so the air is as cold as possible to produce good horse power removing the cover would allow air from the engine bay area which is hot to mix with this air thus raising the temp in the eng and then lowering the rated horsepower take for example on turbo charged cars there are kits to run freon like an a/c system through the intercooler to cool air temperature at the intake all you would be doing is making noise by taking the cover off and losing horse power not to mention if you drive through a large puddle of water the chance of water intrusion into the motor which is baddddd

Actually this may have a negative effect on what you are trying to do. I would suggest replacing (if you haven't) your air filter with a "high flow" or a "performance" filter. The stock cover (again depending on the car) is already deflecting air into the "carb". You might get a better answer by letting us know about the car. Example- year, make, model, any current modifications that you may have made, etc.

Putting in a clean air filter will do about the same thing. I'm not sure if leaving the cover off will let the air filter jump around or if it will stay secure without it. good luck.

Removing the air filter can cause the engine to suck too much air and it will bog down..... I would go with a Cold Air Intake system.

probably the worst thing you can do is run the car without the air filter . any dirt or dust that get in there will reduce your engine life probably about 75%

don't just remove the filter, its there to protect the carbs.
change it out with a k&n filter and shoot it with a filter charger.
this will allow you carbs to breath better and boost your performance.
