What are the pros and cons?

2000 st pickup 4x4 4.3 vetech engine. 94.000 miles.ok the manual says use 5w-30 front what ive heard on here is the first # the lower the more protection at cold starts.does this mean when the engines cold in the morning our when it cold out.because it not cold in missouri anymore.. the second # means the higher protection also.i dont care about performance i just want the engine to last as long as possible so why not use 5w-40 our 50?? if they even make that.

I didn't know until I made it home, that I'd put too much oil. I had driven the car no faster than 40 mph and it took me about 10 minutes to arrive home. I noticed the smoke smell about 3 minutes before I arrived home. I've been reading up this morning, so I know now what could happen to the vehicle from too much oil. But since the engine was still working when I switched the car off, I was wondering if the engine can still be saved, and if so, how do I remove the extra oil? Once the extra oil is drained, will the engine still stop working?

Thanks to anyone willing to answer my questions.

1999 Oldsmobile Bravada. Roughly 100k miles. I just got done having a new fuel pump installed for failure, also had the fuel filter changed. Within days after having this done, the service engine soon light came on, yet no new performance issues have been noticed. I have experienced Transmission slip between 1st and second, and between 2nd and third, but this has happened before the fuel pump. The light went off for a week or so - thought it was fuel related as I noticed it off after refueling. This time I refueled the light came back on again! Suggestions? Thoughts? Where would I begin?

I have managed to get hold of a second hand boot spolier for my Civic. It is white and my car is silver. What is the most cost effective way of stripping the paint from it and prepping it for a respray if I was doing the work on my own.

My son depends on his Contour to get to college and work! The car works in reverse, and at this point can be driven in second. But, not first! IT IS AN AUTOMATIC. I am afraid we will not be able to afford to get it fixed. My son can't afford newer car at this time. We checked and added transmission fluid, but as we suspected it did not help. I am too afraid to let son keep driving it, as I am assuming it will ALL go out before long. But, I am no mechanic! Help please!!! Thx!!

I drive a 96 Buick Century and ever since I got it the directionals have been...well...strange. My left directional light works, but it won't blink on it's own so I have to do it manually. My right one will blink, but it doesn't snap back up after I make the turn. What's causing this and how much will it cost to fix?

I have a 2002 Ford Escape XLT that has never given me any problems. I was backing out of a parking space and went to put it into drive and it would not move. I still have reverse, 1, and 2 but when I put it into drive it acts as though it's in neutral. Does anyone have an idea what this may be? I had no problems before with it slipping or making any noises. The fluid is black but it does not have any burnt smell to it. I am worried about taking it to a shop because of being taken advantage of being a 26 year old woman. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts on this. Thank you!!

So after buying a car for 250$ with a knock and driving home 30 miles soon after having the car not run anymore but still turning and ideling. Later on taking valve cover off and discovering bent push rod and a colapsed lifter. Then taking the head off replacing all the lifters and pushrods and the arms. the old lifters did not have any damage on the bottom so i figured the cam is fine. So first start up after fixing fired right up, but still was knocking. so i flushed the engine added antifreez and all the good stuff. still knocking. so i just drove it anyways. it drove still knoking and o yah i also got a messed up water pump i think cause the fan is all loose. the knoking is at is worse when the car is in park, and when the engine is hot. the knock seams to come from the upper back of the engine. maybe on the left. what should i do? what could the knock be? its not the bearings i already checked.

I had a screw in my tire, and so I brought it in to get the tire fixed. Now, every time I drive on the freeway for more than 10 mins, the tire pressure light come on. I checked the air pressure, and it says that it is fine. Is there something wrong then with the tire or the light?

My 1991 Jeep Cherokee stopped running. I was driving along and the oil light began to flash as I came to a stop. I was only a few miles from my house, so I thought I could make it becuase the oil light would turn off when I got going again. While about a mile from my house the engine died at a stop sign. I tried cranking the engine and nothing happened. No cranking sound or anything. What could be wrong? I had just checked my oil earlier and it was halfway between full and low.
