I have a 2002 4 Runner with over 125,000 miles, should I start using a different type of motor oil? Something made for high milage vehicles?

What are the pros and cons?

Agree with the first response....just change oil and filter every 3,000 miles with a good quality oil like Quacker State, never Pennzoil and if you want to put in additives like STP, I would highly recommend a product that GM dealers carry called " Engine Oil Supplement" or EOS...it's way better than STP at reducing friction...we had a demonstration by an engineer salesman at one time that used a motor running a shaft that was weighted and would ride on a steel plate to simulate engine wear and is used to determine anti-friction properties of various engine oils and supplements. He put regular oil in the device and started the motor and it seized up in a few seconds, then STP and it lasted a minute or so, and when he used EOS, it would not seize up for 7 or 8 minutes...he was shocked at the results as he had never used it in his device before. Needless to say, we didn't buy his product.
You could also switch to a thicker oil like from 10W-30 to 15W30 which might help bring the pressure up if it's low but your gas mileage may suffer and don't use it in winter.

Special "high mileage" oil is a scam. Continue to use quality name brand oil at good intervals and you will be fine.
