I drive a 96 Buick Century and ever since I got it the directionals have been...well...strange. My left directional light works, but it won't blink on it's own so I have to do it manually. My right one will blink, but it doesn't snap back up after I make the turn. What's causing this and how much will it cost to fix?

Replace the turn signal (multi-funciton) switch. It's not bulbs and its not the flasher module. None of those, if failed, will cause the symptoms you describe. They can come only from the switch.

It could be your fuse for your blinker, but more often its because one of your turn signal bulbs is blown. Turn on the blinker and look to see if front and rear are lit up. I f one isn,t lit this will definately cause you turn signal not to blink because the circuit isn,t complete. As for one not canceling after you make your turn it,s probably the plastic peice is broke inside your steering wheel that cancels the turn signal as you steer out of the turn. This can be quite expensive to have repaired depending on the make of car and who you have fix it. If the piece is broken and not lost you will see it when you remove the steering wheel. You can use a good epoxy glue and put it back on cheap. This is assuming you know how to identify the signal harness in the first place. It,s not hard. Mostly common sense. Good Luck!

Your left light isnt blinking by itself because you have a bad bulb.Your right signal has a broken tab that turns it off after the turn.I would just change bulb in left and not worry about right. Its not that hard to turn off manually. If take to dealer to fix figure between 150 to 250.Its not worth it

im not sure how much it will cost and with out actuually looking at it i dont know what might cause the left flasher to do that but in the steering column there is a turn signal cancel switch which turns the signal off. It could either be the cancel switch in the column or the signal stalk itself.

If it won't blink, most likely a bulb is burned out, check the bulbs. It won't cancel because the little cancel tabs in thhe switch is broken off, you need a new switch, check for prices at Auto Zone. It is differcult to install, take it to a repair shop and get an estimate, get them ti install it.

Left turn = burned out bulb. (front, rear, or side)
Right turn = pain in the @$$ to fix.
