When I ask people that know about cars what it means, they kind of dance around the question, and since they are usually older then me they go into long stories on carborator. And if my car is idled down where is the switch located so I can get it back up in a fuel injection engine?

Back in the muscle car days with big engines I used to drop the engine idle down so it would barely run.

It sounded great too."brrrump-brrrump-brrrrump"

Oh, you can't control yours. There is something wrong with your engine.

To idle up is to increase the speed of the engine, to idle down is to decrease the speed of the engine. That is easy to do on the carbureated engines. On the newer fuel injected engines it is computer contolled. It cannot be adjusted by a maintenance function. If your idle has decreased you have some kind of problem. It could be as simple as an extremely plugged air filter to sensors failing. You need to go someplace you can get the computer trouble codes read. Some auto stores will do it for free, but they may not find the true problem or you may have multipiple problems that they do not detect. The best way is to go to an experienced mechanic and have diagnostics run.

The simplest answer to this saying is: Adjusting your car's RPM at Idle so that it doesn't run (At idle) too Low or too High. If your car idles too Low it may put unwanted pressure on the "working Parts" of your Engine. Essentially what you want is that when you stop at a Red Traffic Light for example, if your car is an Auto Trans the car will, ( In Drive, and under foot brake applied) idle approx between 500 and 700 R.P.M a comfortable ride (Not Bumpy). Most drivers, even though driving Instructors say otherwise, leave the car in Low gear with foot brake applied. In this situation you want the car to idle "Comfortably" once again the RPM at idle for a manual car Ideally should be between 650 and 700 RPM

What do you mean by idled down, its idling low? What kinda car do you have? Lots of the time idle is controlled by the computer, other times not. hit me up at thosewhohatedmecreatedme@gmail.com for more info

Fuel injected autos are controlled by computer. If not it might be a vacuum leak.

in the adventure that your A/C is operating, the compressor will be kicking out and in in the adventure that your interior air is amazingly close to the fantastic temperature. this is the least complicated, most inexpensive clarification. yet the different solutions earlier mine are not to any extent further inevitably incorrect. i'm basically providing a theory diverse than what the others provided.
