How can you tell if your starter is gone on a car. I mean what are the signs you can tell without having it tested? Thanks for any help!

I understand that it DOES take money to get a car all powered up, but im looking for ways that do not burn my wallet such as $300 parts would. Any simple suggestions or good part stores? If it needs to be specific, i have a 05 neon sxt. i care less for racing, but you know as well as i do how fun it is to have a car with a bit more power than it had originally. That and i understand most add ons save me some gas too!

I have a 1991 buick regal 3.1L. There is a major problem. The car has a new fuel pump, fuel filter, egr valve, oxygen temp sensor. Now the car stalls out while driving, and won't start for a period of time. While driving on a inconsistent basis the check engine light flashes but goes out. The electric fans quit today as well. There is no trouble code registering. I don't want to spend a fortune on this car. Help.

My truck is a 1992 F-150. It has a 300 straight six(half of a v-12) and a five speed manual transmission. I am trying to turn it into a 4x4, and I already have a transfer case that will work,, but I need the spacer that mounts the transfer to the transmission. Any help that anyone can provide on where to look for this spacer will be greatly appreciated.

I was driving around yesterday, and when I stopped, I saw the rpms of the engine drop, and eventually hit 0 and the engine shut off. This only happens when I'm slowing down and about to stop. I have to constantly rev the engine to keep it from dropping down and shutting off. It doesn't happen everytime I stop, usually aftre I have been driving for a while. When its about to shut off, I can rev the engine really high, about 4,000 rpms, and it will keep it from happening for another couple minutes, otherwise it keeps happening until it eventually cuts off.
Does anyone know what is wrong, or possibly how to fix it?

2003 Suburban - had no power (drained battery)... In a hurry I purchased a new battery (didn't have the alt or battery checked).

After putting in the new battery all seemed well, until I noticed the idle was very poor. The vehicle stalled when in reverse and using the power steering. I'm noticing the RPMs hover around 250-400 usually over 500 at idle. When applying the gas higher RPMs all seems fine.

I went back to parts store and had the alternator checked. It showed 13.2 volts, and 0 (zero) amps. So I installed a new alternator... The volts were now 13.8 and the amps were around 5 (still too low). So I swap the new alternator again.

I was assuming my poor idle was due to the alternator not putting out the necessary power. I'm heading back to the parts store to test yet again. Assuming I didn't get two bad alternators, what else could be causing the poor idle and low amps? Everything was fine before the battery died....

Hello everyone,
I own a 89 CRX DX - and recently i noticed when driving from a stop, the car has very little horsepower now. but once i get the engine reving around 3000RPM. The power is fine. Also one day i found my battery dead and unable to get the starter going, and had to jump it. Car starts now, but the horsepower in the 0~2500RPM range is verry bad still. Anyhow, I was wondering if this loss of power is a symptom of a failing alternator? Would appreaceate any input, since i dont want to start repacing parts blindly. Hopefully someone has experienced something like this. thanks!!

I have driven a few cars lately and it seems that the amount of work needed to steer the vehicle during parking is different. Isn't all power steering the same or is there any problem?

I think the motor for my heater/air conditioner is broken. For a few days it would come on then stop, then come on again. I didn't drive me car for about a week then when I did the blower was not working completely.
I don't know if the motor itself isn't working, or if there is a lose wire, blown fuse, etc…I don't know much about cars so what are the possibilities it could just be the motor, and how much will it cost to get it fixed if it is. My car is a 2000 Alero, I have had it for four years and I have never had any problems with the heater, so I wondering if when a car gets old if it can just stop working. I am more worried about labor, then the price of a new motor, so any info you have would be great.
If it makes any difference, and again I know nothing about cars, when I let it run in the morning it warms up, I don't know if it's just the heat of the engine or what. Thanks!

but the oil level is still high. could oil and antifreeze leaked through the gasket. it seems to be under that general place.

And could the oil on the ground be an indication of a worse problem than just a blown head gasket.

The driver power seat (which enables the seat cushion to go up and down and driver's chair forward and back) is not working. The passenger's power seat works just fine. My 2004 C240 4Matic has 66,700 miles and just went in for service 3 days ago to change the voltage regulator and battery. However, the driver's power seat worked just fine when I got it back.

Does anyone think it might be the fuse (which is located in a compartment on the left side of the dashboard)? Should I first try changing the fuse, and then the motor?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

Hi, I have owned a 1996 Jetta GL for a year or what-not. It has actually ran really good despite it's mileage and years.

The electronic sunroof has never worked, and I think there is a plug for a computer to be hooked on that does not work either.

Two of my family members are experienced in cars, but not so much in the electronics department.

Anyone have any tips on what I could do to fix this, (besides the obvious option, seeing another mechanic) I was thinking of buying the book of my car and trying to get my brother to attempt to fix it from here.

any tips appriciated

From start up/warm up, the engine runs smooth. For the first 3-5 minutes the car runs like a champ. But, after it fully warms up, the engine starts to sputter randomly between acceleration/shifting points. At some points the car jerks back and forth pretty badly. Some people have told me that is was the plug gaps, timing, rotor/distributor, plugs and wires, injectors, fuel filter/pump, valves, etc...I have gone to Pep Boys and other mechanics 3 days in a row and no progress. I have replaced:all fluids, fuel filter, spark plugs and wires (twice), ignition, distributor and rotor, checked timing, etc and nothing has helped. My engine is composed of a b18b1 bottom and a LS header, non V TECH. I really dont know what to do and dont know where to start with what the problem is. Please help if you have ANY ideas!!! Thanks

ok so when i turn my car on in the morning and got to stop at a stop sign my back left tire will skid and make a bad sound and my car will feel like it is sinking to the ground for a second. after i drive for a few miles the brakes then work fine. then today my brake pedal felt ver firm when i pushed it down, but my brakes didnt really work that good. i have a 95 chevy beretta and the ABS light is on all the time, the dealer said it was fine if it was on u just need a new sensor. he said sensors are expensive and u dont really need one. what should i do. o and today when the pedal was firm both the ABS and the regualr brake lights were on, according to the manuel this means my entire braking system is in danger. and finally today when the pedal was firm, i stopped at a gas station and turned my car off when i started it again the regualr brake light went off and only the ABS light was on, and the pedal was no longer firm, however the problem with the back tire began again help!!
