3 things to check first loose belt

does that car have a external regulator it may be old enoulf for that as they switched some where around there if it does swap it out or better yet replace the alternator with an intarnal one the wiring change is simple i can explain it to ya if you want to do it

check for voltage drop check voltage at alternator at battery ect also check for voltage between positive battery post and positive post on the alternator more thain 1 volt is bad now check the ground check fir volts between negitive battery post ans alternator body ( do thease with car running)
if thease are ok have the alternator re tested as some stores sell junk parts i have had problems with pep boys auto zone and kragens so many times i wont buy from them anymore

i own a repair shop,and a loose cable or a bad battery cable or a ground wire will make that thing come on,even a weak battery will do this,,you need to look around on it for any cable that looks corroded over or loose,anything like that will set this light off on it,good luck i hope this helps.

Have the alternator checked on your vehicle for free at a autozone store. Some of the other autoparts stores will check it for free also.
