From start up/warm up, the engine runs smooth. For the first 3-5 minutes the car runs like a champ. But, after it fully warms up, the engine starts to sputter randomly between acceleration/shifting points. At some points the car jerks back and forth pretty badly. Some people have told me that is was the plug gaps, timing, rotor/distributor, plugs and wires, injectors, fuel filter/pump, valves, etc...I have gone to Pep Boys and other mechanics 3 days in a row and no progress. I have replaced:all fluids, fuel filter, spark plugs and wires (twice), ignition, distributor and rotor, checked timing, etc and nothing has helped. My engine is composed of a b18b1 bottom and a LS header, non V TECH. I really dont know what to do and dont know where to start with what the problem is. Please help if you have ANY ideas!!! Thanks

This car is a 5spd manual. Could it have anything to do with fuel injection?

Possible fuel pump issue. What about air filter? Check inside your air cleaner. I had a customer who had a chipmunk take up residence in her air cleaner. It stored dog food in there, and packed it in pretty tight. Car would start, run, but would gag when you tried to accelerate because it couldn't get enough air.

Does the check engine light come on? If it does, have pep boys pull the codes and post them in a follow up.

Good Luck,

i own a repair shop and i don't think it needed any of those things to start with,i think it has an electrical problem with it,and it may be a real hard one to find also,i had one like this about 2 months ago that the owner had spent around 2 thousand dollars on and couldn't get it repaired,i finally did find it ,there was a wire burnt in to by the computer for it,and it didn't even throw a check engine light on this one,but that fixed it,and i think you may have a similar problem, have the electrical checked on it,good luck with it i hope this helps.

If it only happens during acc and shifting, automatic I assume, I would have your tranny checked. Might be having some problems there. Electrical could also be a good cause. Also, you may want to check your compression, that could cause this issue also. You can get a compression checker at any auto store and check it yourself. I would have a friend help you on that if you do it yourself though.
