Get the heaviest reasonably clear plastic you can find. tape the top edge above the window opening, but only with a few inches of duct tape. Cut a slit a few inches long at the bottom where you want to tape it there. Then work at the sides halfway up, cut a slit and anchor it with duct tape. You now have it pinned in the middle of the four sides. Now you pull the corners gently, trim them and pin them with tape. If you do this carefully, and it isn't hard, it will be really taut and won't flap at all. Trim and seal around the entire perimeter with duct tape. The trick is to stretch it gradually top/bottom, side/side and corner/corner. It gets really tight and all you have to do is seal the edges. The only thing that might bother you is the noise that comes through (it's like having your window open) but otherwise, it's just as good as a window.

If you're getting it replaced Saturday, it doesn't need to be so sturdy. You can tape together strips of saran wrap to make the sheet of plastic and use masking tape or freezer tape instead of duct tape. Or whatever you have...even scotch tape. It's only for a day.

Purchase some heavy clear plastic. Cut it slightly larger than the window opening. Place duct tape on all 4 side to keep it air/water tight.

it may sound stupid, but when my window was broken, while it was parked, i put a towel over it,.. securing it in the door, of course, but it works really well, it kept most of the rain out and it doesn't cause any damage to the car, like tape would

Legal or not, it the insurance company will only use autoglass and there is a four day delay, life has to go on. I had to drive my car 35 miles home from the supermarket carpark where sold dolt opened his door onto me.

You can get various sizes of clear plastic and acrylic from any hardware store. Cut it to be be slightly larger than the window and just duct tape it on there really well.

In order to have coverage for your glass - you have to purchase comprehensive coverage. When they say glass is free - that means the comprehensive deductible is waived for glass only losses. It does not mean they provide coverage you did not purchase. If you just have the state required coverage - that means you have liability only and do not have comprehensive coverage. It should be a couple of hundred dollars to get the glass replaced.

Not legal! If you put anything over that window that restricts your vision in any way, you will be stopped, and not only will you get a ticket but probably have the vehicled seized and impounded til you have someone go to the impound lot and have the window replaced, after it is replaced you get the joy and pleasure of paying for the towing and storage. Better to park it, or drive with the window open.
