I was driving around yesterday, and when I stopped, I saw the rpms of the engine drop, and eventually hit 0 and the engine shut off. This only happens when I'm slowing down and about to stop. I have to constantly rev the engine to keep it from dropping down and shutting off. It doesn't happen everytime I stop, usually aftre I have been driving for a while. When its about to shut off, I can rev the engine really high, about 4,000 rpms, and it will keep it from happening for another couple minutes, otherwise it keeps happening until it eventually cuts off.
Does anyone know what is wrong, or possibly how to fix it?

I had this problem on one of my cars, the problem I had was that the throttle cable was stretched out so the idle was too low. I'd check that and also have you kept up on your routine maintenance? Is your air filter clean? Otherwise if you don't know how to check these things, you should probably take it to a mechanic.

You likely have a plugged fuel filter. Not expensive to replace.

Could also be a bad fuel pump, that would be a lot more expensive.

Keep your fingers crossed that it is the filter.

first if you think 4,000 rpms is reall high, you probably drive a piece of shiit domestic car. really high in my car is 8200. second, check your catylitic converter, distributor, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and fuel filter, that will probably fix it. if not, buy an import
