This van is skipping, cutting off when stopped, loss of compression, not smoking nor are any engine lights on. I suspect it might be a bad injector but, have been told by a few mechanics by them listening to it run of a possible bad valve. I don't want to get ripped off.

I'm told the Mitsubishi built 3.0 liter engine in my 1997 Grand Caravan has a weak top end. I'm told the ticking noise I'm hearing is the valves tapping because the valve guides are worn out. I'm told the repair will cost around $2000.
With 95,000 miles already on the drivetrain, is it worth doing the repair or should I just consider swapping the whole engine (or maybe just the cylinder head) for a remanufactured one?
If I do go the replacement route, can I drop in the 3.3 liter engine instead or am I stuck with the 3.0?

I can locate the plugs themselves but they seem to be a bit of a pain in removing. Not sure if it just a fiddly job or if there is a trick to doing it.

my escort encore should have 14 inch wheels but i found out recently that it for some reason has 13s on it.at the mot it needed new tyres and i got the work done by someone i know (which is cheaper but not always as good!)he didnt have any 14s so he put 2 ford 13s on the back and had to put 2 renault 13s on the front as the new break pads wouldnt fit with the ford 13s!!all a bit confusing i know and i intend to get it sorted as soon as i can afford to but for now i just really need to know what pressure i should have in the ones iv got??thanks in advance!xx

The Scoop.... 1996 Ford Thunderbird 3.8L V6 100,000 on the engine , been told it may need a new head gasket. I went to get estimates from 4 auto shops, 3 of the 4 had no problem doing a head gasket, the 4th shop said they refused to do it since they said the bottom half of the engine would probably fail within about 10,000 miles, suggesting a new engine would be their approach. Obviously a new engine is way more expensive, but is it true that the bottom half the engine is doomed for failure within 10,000 miles ? I certainly don't want to spend 1200 on heads and gaskets for the engine to blow within 10,000 miles.

It was nighttime so I couldn't tell if it was smoke or just steam. I left the car running for a while hoping it was just water that got in/on the radiator. Am I on the right track? Do I need a mechanic?

The car has around 170k miles and the timing belt has not been replaced as far as I know...

1. Is it possible that the belt has never been replaced and has lasted this long?

2. I plan on driving this car for at least another year or two. To replace the belt would cost about $500 according to a few local repair shops. Should I try replacing the belt myself? Is this a very difficult job?

I have a 1998 ford econoline van 6 cycl. I was getting error codes from an obd 2 scanner for po161 o2 sensor, po156 o2 sensor, and po305 cylinder 5 missfire. I replaced the spark plugs, wires, ingnition coil pack, and wiring harness to the ignition coil pack. I still have the same codes in the computer. I cant drive the van as I just bought it, so I cant clear the codes with the drive code clear method. How can I get this dang van to pass the emissions testing in st louis mo. I have fail four times and I am really upset.. Thanks
