I can locate the plugs themselves but they seem to be a bit of a pain in removing. Not sure if it just a fiddly job or if there is a trick to doing it.

try using a spark plug key on a wobble extension (this is a normal extension piece but the end has cut outs so the plug key can rotate to better angles). if the plugs come loose but you cant get the plugs out the block try using an 8mm rubber fuel pipe to push onto the ends of the plug and it will lift them out both of these can be purchased at halfords

Most of these answers are quite correct but I could add "before removing a spark plug make sure there is no dirt, loose rust or debris in the plug recess as this would fall into the engine and has the potential to cause some damage"

Pull the leads off and get a spark plug socket. Attach it to a socket wrench and turn them anti clockwise.

They may have been there a while, so soak them in WD40 first, let it penetrate for a while and they should come out no problems.

if this is the cast iron hcs push rod engine they are notorious for having broken spark plugs. plugs are taper seat and always get over tightened hence the problem. as already advised by those experenced in this field get it hot use plenty of duck oil dont use sideways leaverage and beware of motorcraft plugs. use copper slip or graphite grease on threads when replacing tighten with torque wrench

scrape away what you can of the rust then spray with releasing oil.
then go and drive the car for around an hour, and then try to undo the plugs while they are hot taking care not to burn yourself.
it is the only way to get these out, if you have motorcraft plugs fitted they will snap.

Get a good plug spanner, take off (one by one) the ht leads, undo plugs and replace. That simple.
