if you are talking about the heat shield on your converter you can do 3 things actually 4 but #4 is expensive..(1) try to have them spot weld the shield..(2) use large clamps at both ends of converter..(3) remove the shield and ..(4) replace it

i own a shop and sometimes the heat shields are really important,but if they offered to take it off then it must not be serving much of a job on this one,but id think about before i removed it,the factory put it there for a reason,so it may be needed,and you might want to just have it repaired,instead of being removed,good luck i hope this helps.

Take some of the bolts out and bend or twist the shield. Then bolt it back up and the stress will keep it from rattling.

He should have offered to tighten the bolts that hold it. You paid for the shield and it's there for a reason, make him fix it.

tell him to fix it the right way with on charge it should be under warranty. if its not ask him if it was hit or just bend. the cover keeps the heat of the cat to just the cat. if you take it off it will not heat right and you might not pass smog.
