There was no diesel K-series engine.
Rovers with diesel engines use one of the following engines:
2.0-litre Rover L-series engine (220, 420, 620)
Peugeot TUD-series engines of 1.4 (Metro) or 1.5 litres (115)
Peugeot XUD engines of 1.7 (218 turbo, 418 turbo), or 1.9 litres (218 & 418 non-turbo)
BMW 2.0-litre (Rover 75 CDT)
VM 2.5-litre (Rover 825)
VM 2.4-litre (SD1 2400Sd turbo)
Perkins Prima 2.0-litre (Maestro & Montego)
None of these engines use the same construction method as the K-series petrol engine, so do not suffer the same head-gasket problems.

The diesels are not K series, they are L series, (unless its the 75 which has the BMW 2.5 TD4 engine).
The two engines share nothing in common other than that they sit in the nose of rovers. There are no shared components and they are different in every single way. The 2 litre L series is a pretty old dog, and it's not exactly on par with the latest crop of diesels (i.e. it's noisy and not particularly powerful). However, as with most things that are long in the tooth, that translates into mega reliability. L series will twoddle past 200k without hesitating. Indeed the car will pretty much fall apart around the engine if it's maintained properly.
If it's the 2.5 litre diesel in the front of a 75, there really is nothing to worry about as the BMW unit is super smooth, quiet and reliable.

rover diesels do not have the k series engine. the k series is a petrol only enginge that is fully aluminium which gives it so much problems with the head gaskets. the rover diesels have a steel block and date back to mid 80's in design and quality.

K series diesel head problem so bad they never get in producton. The Diesel is all Peugot/Citroen or is based on O series 1998cc Cast Iorn Block engine. They fine if genine Hed Gaskets used but there som crap cheep ones out tere.
K ser Diesel dont exist.
1998 disesl, sme is "Perkins" and is vere good round town vere nippy, som has turbo, these vere sluggish unless keep revving between 2000 and 4000 rpm, either bog down or spin wheel leaf trafick lites. Non Turbo is beter in town Turbo beter for fuel on Motorway. But they all good do 300 000KM easy.
