Maintenance & Repairs - March 2007

I changed the Transmission fluid +filter in a 1987-88 FWD Cadillac Fleetwood. After filling most of the way back up with fluid, i started the car to accurately fill the rest of the way, when Transmission fluid started spraying from the bottom of the radiator area. I did no work on this area , and can't see exactly where the leak is coming from. (the pan gasket, which i replaced is 100% leak free) There are two soft lines going to the radiator from the transmission that i am about to replace, but am not sure that they are what are leaking. what else could be the problem? Is there a pump between the trans and the cooler that could have blown a gasket? is it likely that the increased flow of the new filter damaged the trans-cooler/radiator? Are there any other reasons than higher flow/pressure that could have caused this? What are some cheep fixes?

Spring has sprung here in NY and I want to wash off all the junk that winter leaves behind from under my car.

how does a idle air control work?i have a 1988 olds 3.8,and when its warm outside does it still suppose to idle up and then idle back down,or does it just does that when its cold outside?my check engine light doesnt come on,but i was just wondering if its suppose to work like that.

I have a 1982 chevy 3500 pickup 2wd that the transmition went out. I also have a 86 Suburban with a 4wd transmition that I will try to put in the puckup. Can somone tell me how to do it or refer me to a website that can. Thans for any help.

I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, and the drivers side windshield wiper dosn't go up, but when you manually put it up, the wiper tries to do a 360 around the windshield, the motor still works, and I don't know what kind of linkage it uses, or if its and independent system, I need help, it gonna rain all weekend!!

I have Nissan Sentra 2002. I recently had my battery changed. The new battery died after few days. I went back to the shop and they put a new battery. The new battery died again. I went back again to the shop and now they are telling me that my car has electrical problem that drawn the battery down. My car has no problem before I got the battery changed. So I am wondering if a mechanical mistake in changing the battery can cause electrical problem.

I am trying to set the timing on my 88 chevy k1500 pickup 350LT engine ecm controlled, it says to set to (zero degrees) but I am wondering if there is a spark advance wire that I have to disconnect first it says not to disconnect the 4wire conector at the distributor on the cowl tag so where would I disconnect the wire?

I drive a 89' camry here in california (its hot), and im not sure which type of antifreeze/coolant to buy and what color? i don't have a owner's manual so i don't know.

and do i have to flush out the remaining antifreeze/coolant before putting in more?

When I start my car it runs fine After about 2 or 3 miles it will start to develop a good shimmy and shake and try to die,just runs ruff i just put a new gas filter on all new hoses,new battery,new starer,plugs and wires Any help would be appreciated.

iI have a 99' Jeep Wrangler and the transmission sticks in only first gear when it is cold. Someone told me it could be the transmission filter? Is there a such thing and could that be the problem?? It runs fine the rest of the time. Thanks Rick

I have 1993 Buick Regal Custom w/191k miles. The car completely shuts off almost every time I put my foot on the brake, the tires are bald, the a/c doesn't work, I cant adjust the volume on the radio...the list goes on. I took my car to an auto shop and was given an estimate of at least $500 (not including a/c repair). Is this car worth fixing or should I just invest in a new vehicle? I really like the fact that I don’t have a car note but I don’t like the idea of investing my hard earned cash into a piece of crap!

i'm workin on my buddys 62 impala. he has a 350 crate engine that was sitting on jackstands for about a year in the garage. it ran great before when in was in his 65. the distributer is timed, the exhaust isn't hooked up yet, we can get it to run for about a few seconds then it will cut out. flames come out when we put fuel in the carberator by pressing the gas. when we just crank it to start no flames and no start.

ok i have a 1996 vauxhall brava, 2.5 non turbo

4 months ago i replaced the key start with a toggle switch and a push button, for reasons of price rather than asthetics.

monday morning i went to start it after spending all weekend working on it and it would not start, seemed like a problem with the diesel pump.

anyway after alot of cranking the starter began to play up, its either clicks or whirrs and when engaging sometimes made a nasty crunch,

the vehicle had another big truck supplying the power through jump leads.

i have once stripped and rebuilt a starter purely to change the two terminals, but this was on a vehicle that was purely clicking and not whirring,

any ideas??

Hi, I have an M-registered (1995) audi 80 avant. It has a (rather worn) 4-spoke leather-bound airbag steering wheel. I'd like to replace it with a three-spoke leather sports one. I understand that I should disconnect the battery and wait half-an-hour before attempting anything (to avoid airbag detonation), but a few questions remain:
1. How do I ensure indicator cancelling continues to work?
2. Can I prevent airbag light coming on? I've seen Momo wheel bosses for this purpose for other cars, but not for mine.
3. Will it pass its MOT without airbag?

i have an 04 hyundai elantra with 45,000 miles i was experiencing a tapping noise in the front tire as i made right turns so i brought it in to the dealer they told me it was the wheel barring so they replaced it under warrenty while it was there they said i need my rotors cut and new belts so i got new brakes and belts.
the next day i noticed there was a noise when i stepped on the brakes so i brought it back and they decided they needed to change the rottors no charge ok i go home new rotters and all now the noise is really bad so i go back they have my cr for 4 days and finaly they tell me they found the poblem my spindel is bent and its my fault because i have surface scratches on my plastic hubcaps frow parallel parking so there not covering .
i have a six month old daughter i drive around i cant afford to fix the problem wheres i shouldent have to it was obviously caused when they machine pressed the wheel barrings the mechanic even said it wasnt my fault what can i dohelp

I have a crack going across my entire windshield that is going to need to be replaced. I was just wondering if anyone else has gotten their whole windshield done and how much it costs. I have insurance but I have no idea what it will cover. [I know I need to make a claim but I'm worried that I am so broke right now I won't even be able to pay the premium/co-pay.]
