My friend and I are driving to Arizona from Illinois but his fuel injector is bad and everytime he comes to a complete stop his car shuts off but turns on just fine. We have been saving for 6months to go out there for spring break and we are definintly going for sure, but we were wondering if we could make it from just a bad fuel injector. If need be, how much would a fuel injector cost to fix? Does having a bad injector cause problems in the long run?

Sorry to discriminate against auto repair shops, but but recently got got swindled...

I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima that I bought about 4 yrs ago with 30K miles on it. It now has 60K miles (not bad for 4 yrs) and I need to give it a check-up - a little rattling in the back / underneath has prompted this.

I live in Chicago, so there are many auto repair shops, but how do I find a good one? Ask friends? Not too many have cars. What about going to a dealer shop? Will that cost more? Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks!

Two months ago, I took my car in for an inspection and a transmission diagnostic. As soon as I pulled my car off the lot, I noticed that it was acting strange upon acceleration and deceleration. If I stepped into the gas, it was jerky and hesitated. If I let off the gas, it stuttered or cut down on RPMs quickly.

Now, I have a hole in my exhaust (the A pipe, I think it's called). Could the exhaust problem be causing this? Or is it something else?

Thanks for anyone who can hazard a guess. If you want or need more specifics, just leave a note, and I'll add details.

I've read a lot about how you can go to Auto Zone and have them clear the code to turn the light off. But often the code just comes back on when using the vehicle in the near future.

The car is a 92 Olds Cutlass Ciera. Here's what it's doing:

Most of the time, it's just fine. This is my husband's car, and he takes it to work daily. When going to work, he drives the highway, with only a few blocks worth of in-town driving (getting to and from the highway). It's fine. Most of the time driving in town, it's ok too. But every so often (about 5 times in the past month and a half), it acts up. The best way I can describe what it's doing is it will start to stutter badly, then quietly die. It ONLY does this when decelerating at a stop. When it dies, it will fire right back up again with no problem. But, it starts, and then it revs itself up rather high, slowly smoothing back out. Once it idles down and smooths out, it will idle fine. However, we put it in gear, and it immediately dies again. We have to let it sit there, turned off, for anywhere from 10-30 minutes. After the wait, it fires right up, acts normal, and goes into gear just fine and off we go.

I have a Mazda 1998 626, 4 cyl car. I just noticed that the radiator overflow tank was almost empty and promptly filled it up with a 50/50 antifreeze-water mixture. The question now is, should I also fill up the radiator directly or should filling the tank be enough?

Thanks in advance...

I heard there is something you put in your engine after you drain the oil and let your motor run for like 5 min and drain again and it will clean out your engine, anyone ever heard of this?

Well, I have a TTR 125, 4 stroke. The bike tends to build up compression really bad to the point where I can't kick start. I read somewhere that if you take out the plug then kick start it might help. It did but, now I still have the problem of it building up the compression and being unable to kick. This makes it really hard to try and start a bike that hasn't been started for 6 months. Any GOOD advice is much appreciated.

I'm only looking for a basic adjustment...I don't know anything about carbs so I can't do that advanced stuff. I just need to know how to adjust the 2 screws in the front which I am guessing controls how rich or lean the mixture is. I'm sure I only need a screwdriver, but maybe I need something else. If you have any other basic tips for me that will help it run better, please let me know. Thanks a lot guys.

I have all of those tools, I didn't know if I needed anything special. I do have one problem, some of the screws are old or had been painted over so they are stuck and when I tried to unscrew them I kinda messed up and stripped the screw or rounded the head off or something I dunno I can't get it off. Is there a tool that I can get that off with or do I just use pliers or something. I have the manual and the shop manual from cadillac and some wiring diagrams. I just need to take the damn thing apart and it's hard :(

We have a 1995 Pontiac Bonneville SE. 3800 series II engine, 6 cylinders, no supercharger, with air conditioning and have been having an ongoing problem for quite some time now. The car starts fine and runs for a while and then it'll stall and we're left waiting 15-20 mins, sometime longer before we can start it again. It doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold, and doesn't seem to coincide with the weather. We've taken it to 2 different mechanics and had these things fixed already, but the problem persists!: Fuel Pressure regulator, Starter, water pump and vacuum linkage. If anyone has an idea as to what might be causing this I'd appreciate your advice. We've already had over 1000 dollars in repairs in 2 months and certainly can not afford a new vehicle.

When cold it starts first turn of the key everytime. Clutch down and no throttle. When warm ( temp. in middle of gauge ) or after at least a 6 mile drive it just keeps turning over ( clutch down and no throttle ) but allways starts 2nd turn of the key. With throttle it fires ( eventually on first turn of the key ) but has a really rough idle then dies. The car has dubious history and done 107,000 m, since ownership aprox 1 year the car has allways been run on optimax / v power. My Garage says it's the coil packs but at over £300 for 6 i want to be sure. could it be the idle control valve ? does a 2.8 have sparkplugs ? if so could it be those ? I have no mechanical brain at all and i am completely useless at DIY. Please help. . . I've been conned by garages before and don't want to fall foul again. I live just south of Newcastle under Lyme if anyone can recomend a good ( but not expensive ) garage.

Vehicle is a 1988 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Brougham, 3.8L, FE3. Directly underneath the driver seat area (possibly alongside the car's frame, there is a VERY distinct smell of gasoline. It may be dripping this as well, but it has rained for the last 2 days, I cannot be certain. Diagnosis? Suggestions?
