You don't, if you are smart. DRLs were invented because people are too dumb to put their lights on in the early morning light, in the dusk, and in bad weather. Every morning I had to drive on a secondary highway to work. Do you know how frustrating it is trying to see a grey car on a grey road against a grey sky because the nut behind the wheel didn't put his lights on? If you need the lights off while you are sitting idling, pull the emergency brake, and they go off. Many newer cars the DRLS don't go on until the car is in gear.

Take out the bulbs.
or...
Do you have a push button to enable/disable your dome light? Push it 4 times.

BTW...If an insurance company wants to be stupid...The can deny your claim in an accident because you disabled a saftey feature.
