It may only take one glow plug to cause this problem.

To test your glow plugs:

1. Remove all wires to ALL the glow plugs.

2. With a test light, place the clip on the positive terminal on the battery.

3. Touch the end of the test light on the glow plug terminal.

4. If it does not light, then the glow plug is faulty.

ok, theres a few possible reason for this, but toyotoas are known for reliablitiy, so i'll do it in the required order!!! 1. it sounds most likley that the battery isn't being given eoung charge back from the alternator, you need to drive the van for atleast 20 miles without swithing the engine off to fully charge the battery back up, this is good not oonly for this reason, but also as a blast up the motorway will clear out any muck in the egine (only to a certain degree!!)) 2, if you have already been driving the vehicle for this much on a regular time scale, then it would usually point to the alternator which isn't giving charge back to the battery. 3, failling that, there could be something left on in the car which is using alot of power, eg radio or something?? this could also indicate a bad earth somewhere, although this is unlikley! 4. your engine may have dampnes in it, but to be honest, driving the vehihcle for over 20 miles should sort that out!!!, i'd also check the car alarm, these are well known for draining a battery over night!!!

Get the Battery checked out make sure it has enough current to heat up the glow plugs & turn over the engine. if that doesn't work replace the glowplugs. Also try putting a deisel conditioner into the fuel & change the filter

Although the glow plug light goes out you still can have one or more not heating to the correct temperatures. The ans is to get them checked out by a garage that does Diesels not a big job .Or you can remove them yourself and check each one by applying battery voltage to them they should glow dull red within about 10secs .Mick UK
