I recently purchased a pre-driven 2004 Toyota 4Runner LTD 4x4 w/ 23k miles. Thankfully, it is still under warranty. I have noticed that in slow, tight turns (or when parallel parking or pulling out of a tight parking space), the front wheels lock up and can even lurch. It feels similar to a transmission problem, but it's not the transmission. Last night, I nearly "lurched" into a parked vehicle as I attempted to parallel park behind it. The dealer told me (after I had driven it off the lot) that it's a safety feature that keeps a large 4x4 vehice from tipping when going through turns. I may be safer in a turn, but lurching into a parked car isn't the sacrifice for safety that I want. I've driven other 4x4 SUV's (including 4Runners) and never noticed this before. Any thoughts on this?
