you can do it and it has been done. just remember when you get the 5.7 you need the wire harness and computer and also you need to get a different transmission. also will prob need to beef up the rear end.

in the end it will cost allot of time and money. seen Cummings diesel engines in a Dakota. also seen a Dakota with a viper V-10 engine, tranny, rear end and rims

so its possible.

You'd be better off getting a crate engine, unless you have deep pockets, then you could do it.
