There are two different water pumps that look identical. One for V belt and one for serpentine belt. They turn two different directions. this is the answer to my own question.

could be a few different things. First make shure that there is not a bleed sequence for that vehicle. I don't believe ther is but always be on the safe side. Did you use a antifreeze stop leak product? These products work sometimes but they also have a tendency to plug radiators and heater cores. If you changed the thermostat di you put it in upside down? Check to make sure you put your serpintive belt on properly. if you route the belt backwards the waterpump will spin backwards and not function properly. Some jeeps also have a couple different impeller options. The fins on the water pump should be the same . Check to make sure that there was only one option for waterpumps that year. Hope this helps

Check the fan. If its electric you may have to replace it or a relay to it. Let the car warm up and see if it comes on. If you have two fans, one may be out. If its not electric, and it doesnt come on, its the fan clutch. I would try a 190 deg. thermostat if you live in the South.

you may have just installed the thermostat upside down. Its also possible you may have a bad water pump, and if your anything like I used to be with the RTV Silicone and you used a ton of it, you may have plugged up the ports on the water pump.
Good luck

If your top hose is cold, your thermostat is not opening.Spend the $5 and get a new one.

warm it up, put your hand on the radiator. move it around and feel for cool spots. if you find some then it is clogged and will need repair. do this before it gets boiling hot so you dont burn yourself.also check to see if the bottom hose is collapsing when the engine is accelarated.

You may have an air in the system preventing the thermostat from opening up. You'll need to *burb* the coolant

you have air in your cooing system you need to burp it. hopefully you didnt blow your head-gasket or crack your cylinder heador worse crack your engine block. when you over heated your engine. first check your thermostat make sure its in the right way. then refill your radiator with coolant, run your engine till warm with radiator cap off to burp out the air. top off your coolant and keep an eye on your guage..
