My dads a mechanic and hes always told me not to ever go over about 45 mph in 4x4. Same goes when you buy a new vehicle never exceed 55 for the first 1000 miles. Oh and always change your own oil at every 3000 miles using quakerstate. Our family has followed these simple rules and we have 2 Chevys 4x4, 1 GMC 4x4 with 215,000 miles , Cadillac, Mitsubishi, Geo, and one Ford that have well over 100,000 miles. All our vehicles run great. hope that helps

you can drive in 4wd as fast as you want to, shifting into and out of 4x4 is where the problem lies, make sure you follow dodges recommended speeds for putting your truck into 4x4 and taking it out of 4x4 while "on the fly"
As far as distance, you can drive as far as you want to in 4hi. But avoid driving on surfaces that don't require 4wd, ie dry pavement.

as far and as fast as you wish, as long as it's a loose surface.
