He was not a winner before he managed the Yankees. He had losing seasons at St. Louis, Atlanta, and with the Mets before coming to the Yankees. With the all stars he inherited, they should have won, no matter who was managing the Yankees.

I'm a huge Yankee fan and I LOVE A-ROD!!! On yahoo's home page, there's an article saying he's a free agent. I'm confused, is he leaving the Yankees? Does this just mean his contract is over and he could leave? DO U THINK HE'LL LEAVE?

I just don't see Theo offering Lowell a multi-year deal, and I'm not sure he's wrong, either. At this point most Red Sox fans should be willing to admit that the Brain Trust is better at evaluating major league talent than most of us are. We aren't back in the lost years of Duquette. I hated seeing Damon and Pedro leave, but they were right to let both of them walk in terms of keeping the whole team strong. Losing Damon has worked out so well that I honestly don't even hate the guy, even if he did go to the Yankees. I would still boo him, but that is a matter of principles.

I do hope they re-sign Lowell. A gold-glover at third base does more to prevent runs than at nearly any other position, and he looks like he's got the big bat going again, and I don't think he's too old for a multi-year deal. But I am not holding my breath. I just wonder who would replace him in the line up. Youk can move to third to make room for somebody at first.

This is for red sox fans or anyone else who wants to wiegh in. Say Mike Lowell signs elsewhere, why would the red sox push for a-rod when they can get Miguel cabrera whose younger and cheaper? I know you have to get him via trade but its better than paying 30+ mil. a year for a-rod. To trade you have Coco Crisp, Julio Lugo (who can play LF or RF like he did with the dodgers) and maybe even J.D Drew (its a stretch and you would probably have to eat some of his contract). Any thoughts or ideas on maybe another good 3B to sign?

Let me start off by saying, I'm a Red Sox fan - so I don't really like Alex Rodriguez, due to many incidents the past 4 or 5 seasons.

That being said, I do believe he's gotten a bad rap for not being a good post season player. If you look at his post season numbers next to those of all-time baseball greats, he actually compares quite favorably:

A-Rod - 39 games, .279, 7 HR, 17 RBI, 21 runs

Joe DiMaggio - 51 games, .271, 8 HR, 30 RBI, 27 runs

Willie Mays - 25 games, .247, 1 HR, 10 RBI, 12 runs

Stan Musial - 23 games, .256, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 9 runs

Frank Robinson - 35 games, .238, 10 HR, 19 RBI, 25 runs

Willie Stargell - 36 games, .278, 7 HR, 20 RBI, 18 runs

Jackie Robinson - 38 games, .234, 2 HR, 12 RBI, 22 runs

All of these players are Hall of Famers. Would you call them post season chokers too?

NO ONE. That's who. A-rod was going to make $29 million next year. That's twenty-nine million friggin dollars. Who do you think can pay him more than that? He's no longer valuable if you have to cut the rest of your team to pay him. Can't Scott Boras see that? He can't play all nine positions and pitch every day...

The guy opts out of a contract so lucrative that 7 years after he signed it he is still making 50% more than anybody else in baseball because he wants even MORE money.

People always blame the Yankees for driving up player salaries. Will these same people give the Yanks some credit if they stay to their word and don't negotiate with Arod?

Questec is the electronic strike zone. It can tell if an umpire should call a strike or ball. The umpire's union has fought fiercely to keep this info private but why. Hitters' batting averages are public, pitch counts are public, fielding errors and fpct are published. Why can't an umpire's accuracy be public knowledge. Good umpires should have nothing to fear, an occasional minor misjudgement is part of the game, only the few poor umpires would be exposed.

The Red Sox have just one their second world series in three years. Both times, they swept the series in just four games.
The Yankees haven't won since 2000, and they lost Joe Torre and now they might lose A-Rod as well.
Do you think the Red Sox will be the greatest team of the 21st century, as the Yankees were in the 20th?

Do you think he would be useful to the Mets or is that money better spent on a good starter? And how might his presence affect the defense? Wright to first base? But then what about the ton of $$ to Delgado?

Being a sore loser I can understand. (As a Cubs fan, I speak from personal experience.) You're upset, you're disappointed, you need a way to vent your frustrations. But being a sore winner? There are so many posts on here from Red Sox fans bashing other teams. I don't understand this, you won! Why not celebrate it? I have seen several posts about how awesome the Sox are and I smile and understand that excitement but I can't understand those that don't show any class and constantly slam the other teams.

Is it just bragging rights or what?
