This is for red sox fans or anyone else who wants to wiegh in. Say Mike Lowell signs elsewhere, why would the red sox push for a-rod when they can get Miguel cabrera whose younger and cheaper? I know you have to get him via trade but its better than paying 30+ mil. a year for a-rod. To trade you have Coco Crisp, Julio Lugo (who can play LF or RF like he did with the dodgers) and maybe even J.D Drew (its a stretch and you would probably have to eat some of his contract). Any thoughts or ideas on maybe another good 3B to sign?

If the Marlins unload Cabrera, it will be for prospects - that's the way they operate. So, why would they deal for any of the three guys you mentioned, especially given that Drew ($14m) and Lugo ($8m) both make more than Miggy?

If the Sox want Cabrera, they'll have to look at giving up a Pedroia or Ellsbury, or more likely some top minor league talent. I'm sure the Marlins can do better than an overpriced outfielder, a guy barely in the majors (Crisp), or an expensive, light hitting second baseman.

What I think will happen:

Mike Lowell will stay with the Boston Red Sox, but they will still sign Alex Rodriguez. Then, they will trade Julio Lugo and Coco Crisp for some good, young pitching, both starting and reliveing from the minor leagues to support Hideki Okajima and Jonathon Papelbon in the bullpen, and replace Curt Schilling when he goes to the Arizona Diamondbakcs to play the final year in his career, and to put some more speed to go along with Josh Beckett.

Yes, this is the opinion of a Red Sock.

i honestly do think if Mike Lowell does in fact sign with some other team we should get A-Rod. no one can replace his numbers he had this year except him, and to get Miguel Cabrera would be impossible even if we trade the whole team. the marlins seem not ready to give up Cabrera and i see why. also there isnt many power hitting 3rd baseman and A-Rod is one. but if they do get Mike Lowell like the answer b4 why not A-Rod at short and replace the mistake at that position. and iam a red sox fan

-First off, let me say I'm not a Red Sox fan.

-Secondly, Why would anyone wanna pay a guy that amount of money when he only shows up in the regular season? If I was gonna pay a large contract to someone, I'd make sure he can get the job done in the playoffs too.

-Third, as far as J.D. Drew or any of the other guys you mentioned go, there's a simple solution to the problem...trade them to the Yankees(they don't mind spending money out their a**).

Good question. The bottom line is his numbers. I will break the home run record, hits record, and possibly even the doubles record. He is run producing machine. But as a Dodgers fan i would hate to see him sign with us. He has a horrible ego and most of his colleagues open discuss their dis like for him. He is not going to be a healthy addition to any team. And i think that pretty much everyone in baseball knows that. So it gets down to what teams are going to be willing to shell out 30 mil a year for his 40+ home runs and not care about what the other players on the team think.

I have a question going on currently with the proposition of having A-Rod play shortstop for the BoSox. He is after all a natural shortstop with AMAZING POWER. I think it's a good idea...but others may not see it that way. By the way, I'm not a BoSox fan.

I think Cabrera is a good idea but I'm inclined to think the Bronx Bombers will get him. :p

if we didn;t re-sign lowell and he went somewhere else i wouldn't want arod, cabrera would be nice and we would have to trade but with florida, they wouldn't want crisp or lugo at all because they both can't do crap, and they definitely wouldn't take jd drew, cabrera would be good tho
