I just don't see Theo offering Lowell a multi-year deal, and I'm not sure he's wrong, either. At this point most Red Sox fans should be willing to admit that the Brain Trust is better at evaluating major league talent than most of us are. We aren't back in the lost years of Duquette. I hated seeing Damon and Pedro leave, but they were right to let both of them walk in terms of keeping the whole team strong. Losing Damon has worked out so well that I honestly don't even hate the guy, even if he did go to the Yankees. I would still boo him, but that is a matter of principles.

I do hope they re-sign Lowell. A gold-glover at third base does more to prevent runs than at nearly any other position, and he looks like he's got the big bat going again, and I don't think he's too old for a multi-year deal. But I am not holding my breath. I just wonder who would replace him in the line up. Youk can move to third to make room for somebody at first.

Don't get me wrong--I'm sure they will offer Lowell a multi-year deal. I'm just afraid the Yankees are going to go buck wild to outbid us, like they did with Damon. Theo's not going to get stupid about re-signing Lowell, just because the Yankees do.

Honestly, why would they not offer him a multi-year deal? There's every reason why he should be secured as a cornerstone to the organization into the next decade, and while I certainly agree that they know better about evaluating talent better than we do, this would figure to be a no-brainer considering who Mike Lowell is as a pro/strong clubhouse influence, and what he offers statistically both on offense and defense.

He should be the #1 priority all the way...

I totally agree with you. Emotionally, psychologically, call it what you want, I want Lowell. But if they let him go and sign A-Fraud, I am going to be very upset.
Theo had to have seen the palpable support for Lowell on the team and in the crowd yesterday. They did offer contracts to Pedro and Damon, but the Mets and Yankees, respectively, offered better deals. Lowell will get what he deserves, numerous offers of multi-year deals.
The Red Sox could move Youk to third--it's hard to remember that was his original position -- and move someone else to first. Manny maybe and put Ellsbury in left or else get a new first baseman and put Ellsbury in center.

How do you think the A s felt about Damon... not much different then you Iam sure... As far as Lowell goes...is he really what the Yankees need ( another aging player ).... I think NOT..And Dont forget you are losing YOUR self proclaimed chosen one Schill... Its a givin that your billion dollar baby...Dice K will most likely be better next season... But please dont believe that 08 will be a walk in the park...... Big Poopie is due for an injury,,, Packin that much wieght is NOT healthy... JD is a streaky player at best... You are a better squad WITHOUT Pedro...Pedroia will be much improved ....and as ALL you Sox fans like to say Manny is just Manny....

Red Sox should make him a priority but I think he will be wearing pinstripes next year, but who knows what will happen.

Hopefully they learned their lesson and won't be dolts and overbid again.
