Who cares they still scored hundreds of runs prior 2 having him so why cant they continue without him again
Pitching: They don't need to go out and pick up any pitchers they have Pettitte, Wang, Kennedy, Chamberlain, Rivera, Rasner, Clippard, DeSalvo, Karstens, Wright, Ohlendorf, Henn, Bruney, Bean, Britton, Brower, Veras, and Ramirez 18 great pitchers for at most 12 spots

The fate of the 2008 Yankees all rest in what happens during the off season....Does Posada Rivera and Abreu come back? Who do they persue in the free agent market after posting a question earlier about them singing Tori Hunter for CF and reading the answers i got I changed my thoughts and agree with most of the answers that they need a dominate pitcher...a lefty would be nice...As for 3rd base there is no way that Boston is going to let Lowell go and anyway he had a career year and who is to say that he is going to put up those types of numbers again..There are not many quality starters on the market and third basemen...But the Yankees have always figured out a way to work with what they have last season was proof...I think the Yanks will make noise in the AL East

They have some very good young players this year. They'll get a solid guy to play 3rd base. They scored more runs than any Yankee team since Gerhig and Dimaggio so they can get by without Arod's bat but they do need to pick up some right-hand power. They can trade one of the 3 young pitchers and still have a great rotation. If they trade two of them and get Johan Santana then say goodbye to the Red Sox.
I think Mariano's day as a lights out closer are gone. He could get by another year but it wouldn't be awful to let him go now. I haven't seen Joba as a starter to know if he'd be better there than as a reliever.

I see that someone mentioned their pitching staff as a strength, but I'd argue that it's the pitching that cost them the season.
The Yankees scored the most runs in the American League, and were half-a-run better than the next-best team. At almost six runs a game, their offense obviously doesn't need help. Even with the potential loss of A-Rod, I wouldn't expect them to suddenly crumble with their bats. Where they need help is on the mound, specifically with starting pitching.
Wang is a good starter, but I don't think he's the ace around whom you can build a staff. He's a guy who should be in the two-spot, which means they need to bring someone in via free agency to take that top spot. Philip Hughes will be a very good pitche one day, and could probably take the third spot right now in their rotation.
As for the 4-5 spots, that's where I'm not sure of their future. Joab Chamberlain could potentially start, but I'm not sure what to make of him yet - he pitched well this season, but that was only 24 innings. I think Clemens and Mussina are done, and I don't see Igawa, Clippard or Desalvo as anything more than fifth starters.
The Yanks will score plenty of runs and keep themselves in games, but they'll need to find an ace and have the young starters step up next season. If not, they could find themselves slipping. I wouldn't make the mistake, though, of ever counting them out.

Glad Arod is gone..... Think Chamberlin should become a starter... I dont believe that the Yanks are in as bad a shape as the rest of the world would like them to be.. Not sure who replaces A DUD at third but I hope its NOT Lowell

Yankees will be just fine & be a contender for division title and/or wild card spot. Fans always count them out but they shouldn't . Yankees don't suck. I don't care what people say, no team that has been to more World Series & won more World Series titles than Detroit, Boston & Cleveland combined can really be called a sucky team. I hate the Red Sox but I don't think thet suck even when they went all those years without a title. They as well as the Yankees put a winning team on the field year in & year out. Did the Tiger do that, that's for Georgie Porgie. No they didn't. Boston & the Yankees are 2 of the best teams in baseball. hate them or love them

The Yankees are a good team, but management has unrealistic expectations of the team. They think they're supposed to win a world series every other year or so, but that ain't gonna happen. How do you get rid of a manager that got you at least into the playoffs basically every year he was there, and baseball is the hardest sport to make the post season in, when only 4 teams from each league get in. The Yankees should be ashamed of themselves, and if Girardi thinks it's going to be any easier for him, he's crazy. If they don't win a world series during his 3 year deal, he'll get dealt.

Happy the are in turmoil. And to top it off their rival, the Red Sox have won two World Series since the Stankees have won their last.
If I were the Yankees I'd worry about pitching. You have enough offense. Try Betimet at third or see what Eric Duncan can do(1st rd pick 2003/4). Betimet was Baseball America's top prospect in 2001 never really got ABs in Atlanta or LA. I'd go get Santana for let's say Hughes and Melkey. Sign Tori Hunter. Bring back Pettite Posada, Abreu and Rivera. Let Joba ease into the closer role. He is not a starter. You would have Wang, Pettite, Santana, and Clippard/DeSalvo/Kennedy. Jeter, Abreu, Posada, Cano, Hunter to anchor the offense and Joba to set up Rivera in the pen.
Maybe sign a 1B and another veteran starter.
Just to see how far pitching gets you.

Hmmm I hate the Yankees. But I think that the 08 season is going to be the best season you guys have had in a long time. Your getting rid of of Mr. Alex Rodriguez, the cancer of your clubhouse who now can go be a cancer in someone elses clubhouse. I hope he goes to Boston because i hate them too. You guys have a lot of young talent there let them get some starts. Play some small ball not everyone on the line up has to be a home run threat.

I'd love to see Mike Lowell be A-Rod's replacement. I don't think we need any pitching. Wang, Hughes and Kennedy will all be good next season. We should try to sign Pettite. I'd like to see Joba stay in the bullpen.
