I'm 14, Atheist, and I have yet to tell my strict Catholic family [so they call themselves - my parents haven't been to a chruch in years] that I don't believe in god.
I'm afraid that if I tell them, they'll start making me go to chruch. And that truly is the last thing I want.
My grandparents spend majority of their time helping out their chruch, and I'm afraid of losing their respect if my parents tell them.

Any advice? Do my parents really have the right to make me go to Chruch?

You know there are things out there that condoms can not prevent you from getting. I mean getting pregnant is not always the worst thing that can happen.

Please read the whole question. I have noticed this being a problem here lately.

I asked a question the other day about penance and had several Catholics answer. As I now understand it you confess to the priest and are given penance. Doing the penance is necessary in order to be forgiven. To me this seems to be a doctrine of works. That you earn your salvation. That if you do not do these works you are not saved. This seems to go against what is taught in the Bible.

To preempt this gambit being used. I know James teaches works and I agree we should have works. If you have faith the works will naturally follow. Not works that save us but works that we do because we love God.

So on to my question since the Bible is clear that salvation is by faith alone. Then why do catholics and some others believe they have to earn their salvation by works? Penance is works.

Scripture to follow in additions.

I think the previous Pope was a good man (I am not Catholic), I think he wished to do good, he cared about relationships with other faiths and tried to live the simple life.

But Rat_singer is the complete opposite, he wants to bring thinks back to the middle ages.

Opinions.

Didn't Christ say "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above the master"?

So between Christ and The Father, is Christ the master, or is God the Father the Slave then? I'm confused...

There can be only one answer to this: yes, it is! Simply open Corinthians, chapter 11. Read verses 3-10.
But I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man praying or prophesying with his head covered, disgraces his head. But every woman praying or prophesying with her head uncovered disgraces her head, for it is the same as if she were shaven. For if a woman is not covered, let her be shaven. But if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, let her cover her head. A man indeed ought not to cover his head, because he is the image and glory of God. But woman is the glory of man. For man was not created for woman, but woman for man. This is why the woman ought to have a sign of authority over her head, because of the angels. In other words, the passage means what it says. Have you ever wondered why Catholic nuns dress like they

Christ said, "Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and so teaches others, shall be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven" Matthew 5:19

Hasn't Paul annulled the Jewish commandment of abstaining from pork, and the necessity for circumcision?

The Islamic Golden Age (mid 8th to 13th C.) was influenced by such Quranic injunctions and hadith as "the ink of scientists is equal to the blood of martyr's" stressing the value of ADVANCING knowledge and individual contribution to Allah (the whole). The resulting outpouring of knowledge from scholars in the fields of science, the arts, literature, philosophy, and engineering technology - both through preserving the world's past body of knowledge and new, unique innovations - CAUSED the European Renaissance & its ideal- individual creativity as a RESPONSIBILITY which still infuses western society today.

In Islam -as in Judaism- there is no higher level of achievement than 'prophet' - WHATEVER unique gifts one receives from God/Allah, they should contribute to the whole through the process of unselfing/internal jihad/altruism. In light of CURRENT tribalism/jihadism, can Muhammad's original vision - uniting warring tribes into a movement for the greater good, EVER be reestablished?

Advocate murdering innocent people? I've heard it said that "Islam is a religion of peace", yet in virtually every part of the world there are daily acts of terror committed by people that claim to be devout muslims. These attacks are generally against innocent civilians and seem to have no purpose other than to cause chaos and misery. Why don't these people just leave the rest of the world alone and stop killing? In the latest Bin Laden tape, he accuses the U.S. of killing more muslims than anyone, but muslims kill far more muslims than everyone else put together. The U.S. and Israel are just trying to stem the tide of slaughter coming from these people.
