It is the philosophic ABSENCE of religious belief
Not a religion,
Not a cult (which is redundant -- religions ARE cults by dictionary definition)
But a philosophy

Neither from my understanding atheism doesn't believe in any kind of God so that eliminates religion and a cult is a group of people meeting and following a leader so that eliminates cult. Atheist are individual people that don't believe in Christ and they don't come together in a meeting (like church for Christians) to share their opinions on their beliefs (hopefully I'm not wrong)

it's a belief system rather than a religion...if anything a philosiphy or school of thought...
It meets a few of the criteria for religion, but not all of them.
Religion isn't just 'believing in god', some religions don't have any gods at all.
but also,
It is interesting to listen to some Atheists say how what they believe in does not constitute a religion. Strong belief in nothing is every bit as much a religion as strong belief in something (such as Communism OR Capitalism), or Someone.
Even if I don't look through the lens of my atheism I can't say for certain Atheism is not a religion. You don't need a God, a prophet and a holy Book to have a "belief" in something. You do believe in "nothing" in some cases. But you still remain as a believer. You cannot free from "believing." Atheism is a belief, a religion, which worship "nothingness," or rather, worship human mind only.

Atheism is very simply the non belief in theology,theism,G-d as I understand.
If atheists were to ban together and form a group I suppose yhe group would be named -something- depending upon the goal of the group !

Atheism, as I understand it, is NOT a religion. As for an occult, again there are no religious ties to atheism, so I would have to say no to that one also. Christian.

Neither.
Atheism is a religion like bald is a hair color.
Atheism is a religion like not playing golf is a sport.
Atheism is a religion like not singing is a song.

Both, either, or neither, depending on the road taken to get there and the choices made by individuals once they're arrived.

its defiantly not a cult or a religion. it means not believing in any god that's it. just because someone doesn't believe in god doesn't make them bad it is their actions and beliefs that determine it.
