What you heard is a Christian view point refered to as preterest (i think that's how you spell it) I'm not sure how they justify it but they believe the Anti-Christ had already come and Gone approx 70 ad. They cite that roman General Titus persormed the abomination of desolation by sacraficing a pig on the alter in the telple in Jerusalem and then destroied the temple.
Im not sure how they explain the second comming, what I mean to say is I'm not sure if they believe it has already happened or not, however Paul had to teach against such a rumor before the end of the 1st century so it is a long told of heracy.
The truth is Jesus is returning when we do not know, as students of prophecy we were given signs by Jesus and tole to watch for Him and wait and when wes saw certian things happening in the world to be ready because His return is almost here.
The idea of the rapture of the church is in my opinion biblical and actually there is scripture to support the pre, mid, and post tribulation accounts however, and I differ from the preterests in that the rapture is not the 2nd comming, it is not even an appearing of the Lord, it is as the scripture says an action of the Holy Spirit that will occur in the blink of an eye.
The Glorious appearing, or 2nd Comming will be neither short in happening or like a "thief in the night" It will be for all to see, everywhere every live person will see The Lord Appear in the Sky as described.
I have jumped around alot and probably only scratched the surface, but suffice it to say, I believe you can rely on the fact that Jesus has not actually returned, and YES HE WILL DO SO, for he promised to. It is for me one of the most thrilling subjects of God I can study, but it is not the end all be all of doctrine and descipleship.
see Titus 2:11-14 and meditate on this passage for a time and God will reveal so much truth in this little group of words.
I have studied on this passage for 2 years now of and on and I tell you it takes me so many other places in the word. It is to me Pauls elaboration or commentary of Romans 1:16, and that's just for a start. Salvation, sanctification, and the gloropius appearing all in one small passage. Makes ones blood run swiftly.

Jesus is still going to come back. The first time He came, He lived as human (though He remained God). He died to pay the penalty for our sins. He rose again to break the power of sin and death. He will come back again. He has NOT come back again. Will He come back as part of "the Rapture" such as the Left Behind Series portrays? Or will He just come back and have the Great White Throne Judgment of Revelation 20? All Christians believe that Jesus WILL come back in one of these two way, but we have differing opinions on which one it will be. Either way, you'll recognize it when it comes.
If it is the Rapture, millions of people will disappear suddenly. If you are a Christian, you'll be one of them. Either way, you'll know the Rapture took place.
If it is the Second Coming, then people will be facing God in final judgment -- some to go to heaven and some to go to hell. You'll recognize THAT when it happens also.
Since none of that has EVER happened yet -- then we know He is still coming. He is waiting until everyone who will believe, DOES believe.

Yes he will return to rule the earth for a 1000 years. His second coming will be in a cloud and with him will be the resurrected saints. This is to happen soon, how soon no one knows, maybe not even Jesus as he said only the Father knew the exact time. Things to look for are the two witness or prophets who are to be killed on the streets of Jerusalem. these two people are servants of the Lord who are preaching his Gospel. Another thing to look for is the great war that is called Armageddon in the Bible. That also will be going on at or close to his return. So many other prophecy's have been fulfilled or partly fulfilled that those two are going to be the telling ones. However even those will be missed by unbelievers For instance the two witness are not going to be Elijah and Moses as I have heard it said, as they cannot be killed a second time. These will be two modern day Prophets who by even some of their own church may not believe in them. But return Jesus will and it may be in your life time too.

In the gospels he said he would return, and he also made other prophecies concerning the end times. The book of Revelations, which is separate from the gospels, also makes prophecies concerning Jesus' return and the end times. The Left Behind series is one attempt to combine all this material into a coherent narrative.

Yes, He is coming back.
He even said so Himself. Want to know how?
In ancient Jewish custom, when a man was done eating his meal, he just wadded up his napkin and threw it aside. However, if he WASN'T done, he folded his napkin neatly. That let his servants know not to take his plate away.
In the tomb, the cloth that covered Jesus' face was folded neatly. He was saying, "I'm not done yet." And He also told the disciples that at least one of them would SEE Him return before they died.
John saw, in Revelations, what is yet to come.

He hasnt come back and the left behind series is just fiction, depicting what the Author thinks the rapture and the end will be like.

In Matt. 16:28, Jesus promised that some of his disciples, who were standing there with him, would not die before seeing him return in his kingdom. Obviously, he lied, because they died centuries ago and Jesus never came in his kingdom. The whole story is stolen from ancient pagan religions which taught of the arrival of paradise on Earth. It's an old concept that never goes away, it just gets recycled for a new audience.

Yes, Jesus is coming back, here's how you will know when it happens.
2 Thessalonians 2:1 Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers, 2 not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.
3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.
5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time.
7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming.
9 The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, 10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.
Matthew 24:29 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

He has not made the second coming yet. But He will. Reading Revelations will take you step by step. The Bible states that no one on Earth can predict when He will come, but He will come, be sure of that.
