Religion & Spirituality - 8 September 2007

[Selected]: All categories Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

At its most fundamental core, a religion is a pathway to god. The purpose of every religion is to guide man in the right direction, educate him so that he is able to adopt the correct culture, lifestyle and mentality which is needed to connect to the divine creator, as well as to personification of God and spread godliness, virtue and love in the world.

Each and every religion is holy, sacred and must be respected because god is in every religion and every religion is in god. Islam and Christianity have been antithetical to the fundamental concept of religion. By marketing their religions like it is a business product and begging for recruits, they are disrespecting the sanctity of religion and they are making religion appear to be cheap.

Disclaimer: This question seems to be a mockery on the surface, and while I admit that I did chuckle at the sight of my final wording for it, I really do wonder what kind of consensus there is on this subject.

Please answer the Title question with a choice from below, and answer the JS sub-question in your own words, if you'd like. Thanks!

A) One (as it says in the BoM)
B) Two, plus a Spirit, who is not yet a God, since he has not yet passed through mortality and been exalted (as in Gospel Doctrine Manual)
C) Three (as Joseph Smith taught)
D) Seven; the Three above, plus Adam (per Brigham Young), Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (per Joseph F. Smith in D&C 138)
E) Countless (as in D&C 132)

If you became an atheist (just pretend, imagine, speculate, whatever) would you be in danger by your community, or how would your family and friends react?

What would change in your life?

..the McCanns, allow their daughter to be taken and suffer as she and they must have done?
What sort of god is it, she or he?
If they do believe, why have they been forsaken by this so-called caring god?
No bible quotes, as those quotes are merely unproven statements by people who only THOUGHT they knew the answer.

Why do people act like being gay is a disease! Some one said "If we let them get married there going to make us gay!"

Don't be dumb, being gay is NOT a disease and gays are not going to force you to become gay! So I don't get your problem! And love is not just about a family! 1)the earth is overcrowded so having less kids helps, unless your a women and want to get pregnant 2)without love you don't have a marriage 3) stop making ridiculous metaphors about gays! Like being gay is like pretending a horse is a cow! Because that makes no sense! Marriage is about love, and when your in love your mature enough to handle it! Just because a child thinks there in love does not mean there in love! And Stop making metaphors like that too! So to my question, why do people think being gay is like a disease???

ALOT of the board members TRY to commit sexual immoral acts! yeah they LOVE asking married women on dates while they know the husbands! i could go further with this but i wont.

First, accept Jesus as my Saviour, as I have done, knowing that I will be saved for Eternity nomatter what I do next.

Then accept Buddha and his eightfold path just in case I get reincarnated.

Then accept Islam just in case it really is the Final Revelation of God.

Can't hurt, can it?

In my comparative religions class our professor asked us to explain what we would do (those of us who are Christian - Muslims have a different assignment, etc) in essay form,
if we somehow got a tour of the Vatican archives and came upon a room that contained hundreds of documents explaining how Christianity was a political tool, made up by some organization, which slowly became the Catholic Church, and that Jesus was completely made up, the Bible was made up, the whole thing was an elaborate political hoax, etc.
You gather experts from around the world and they are shocked that, after reviewing it all, lo and behold, there is no refuting it, Christianity was completely made up! Jesus never existed at all and before you is more than enough evidence to bring, not only Christianity, but Islam and Judaism down.
We are to imagine that the evidence is irrefutable, if we don't believe something can be irrefutable, then we are to pretend that this is irrefutable.
How would we change?

Okay lets say atheist's are right, lets say there is no God. But the fact is that beliving in God does nothing more than make us into better people and help each other. I mean whats wrong with "Love thy neighbor?" "Honor thy father and mother" "Thou shalt not kill?" I mean the govenrment even made them into laws because they were productive to society. The fact is beliving in something just helps you grow as a person and even help you get thru things. Personally I've been in bad situations a lot and looking to God made me feel like I wasnt completly alone. So honestly tell me why do you insult people who belive in God and want nothing more than to just live a happy life and help other people?

For example if you have commited 300 petty crimes in your area your "humanity score" decreases which means that you have less access to human rights laws, and if you are a serial killer you are not entitled to a single sentence of the human rights act. Just food for thought on this Sunday morning.

And I wanted to point something else out. Did anyone notice that when you are a peaceful person and you accept people the way they are, that all walks of life can be your friend? I have friends from all walks of life, of all beliefs, and I never push religion at them. If they have a question, I'll answer, but that's as far as it goes. Do you make friends based on religion or on character?

I'm a Christian. I am so thankful for what God has done in my life. he has given me stregth, comfort, courage, comfort, and will power. He makes me feel strong physically. I ask why is he so good to me. I have done so much sin. I have became to where I have hated myself for what I've done. I have treated people better then God before anhjd God has done so much more for me then any human has. I sometimes cry when I think about how a treat God and I hurt. I just wish all can feel God's love and comfort and understand it. I believe that those out there who are non believers should listen and preferablly watch the music video of Does anybody hear her by Casting Crowns. The music video speaks what I'm trying to say. Praise God for he has been VERY good to us! Now I'm sorry if that was rambling but here;s the question. What has God done in your life that just makes your heart sink and your emotions twirl about from how amazing or great it may have been or how happy and excited it made you? Gb
