A number of reasons. Ultimately Truth is not relative. Therefore to pretend that all religions are equally valid for instance is to say that you can believe whatever you want and it doesn't matter. I think it matters eternally.
There is a further reason which is that Hinduism and Islam and Christianity are religions which all seek converts. Judaism perhaps surprisingly does not.
No system of thought should be such that it requires its own adherents to threaten or kill anyone who does not share the same beliefs. However Christ demanded that the gospel be preached to the world. It is ironic that so many people accuse Christians of "forcing their beliefs" on someone when in fact NO belief can be FORCED on anyone even were that to include torture. I will NOT think Mickey Mouse is a god even though I might say so to stop someone putting my eyes out with hot scissors.
Another reason people are not comfortable might be that deep down inside their souls they don't REALLY believe what they claim to believe.
Jesus seldom told anyone they were going to go to hell, He did tell the religious leaders of the day (who probably went around telling the people that the people were going to hell unless they paid more money to the religious leaders..._) that they were the children of the Devil.
But if you are an atheist then of course belief in things religious are deemed by you to be stupid therefore it really does not matter to you if one man thinks green is purple and another thinks it is orange.
However bleach and water look alike in glass bottles but when decanted one can disinfect or kill depending on how you use it. The other can save a life or take it (drowning).
The truth is only one religious belief is going to open the door to Heaven. There are not hundreds but only two religions in the world; those dedicated to purifying the soul through works, making oneself righteous. The other is the Grace or sheer unmerited favor of God through Christ, whose sacrifice provides the righteousness of anyone who believes and follows Him and His teachings. I hope this helps you to understand. One final reason might be that a person wants to share his or her faith because because the person really does care for the other person and do not want them to be lost. In fact that should be the first and only reason.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Religion is a long-standing excuse for tunnel-vision. They have grown so attached to their all-problem-solving solution (god, if you didn't get the dig) and it's worked so well for them over the past... n-thousand years that it's difficult to just break the pattern and accept something different.
If up until this point in your life, you were called 'Erin' (or 'Aaron' in male cases) suddenly someone discovered your birth certificate shoved behind a dresser only to find that your real name is 'Dawn' (or 'Don'), you'd be a bit hesitant to change names at this point, wouldn't you? Well, for religion, this hesitation has being going on since the first scientist was killed for having a different idea. it's easy to laugh at someone when they're wrong. it's hard to go up to them later, when it's realized that they're actually right, and apologize and accept their idea. It's really a pride thing, i suppose.
edit : I never actually looked at the avatar for you, so for the name/gender thing, i went with my own.

Obviously I believe what I believe because I think I'm right. I think root of the problem is who well people can accept being right or wrong.
WHen I'm right, I try to educate people, but in the end if they learn nothing, I give up and walk away (unless there is a dangerous situation, like, no, burning your face is NOTa good idea... but lets not be extreme). So when it comes to talking to others about religions, I wish to educate people about my beliefs..... not get mad if they don't share them.
Other people thik they are right and NEED to make everyone else "right" as well....

In my catholic school we were told that the bible states we shouldn't worship "false Gods" and although that meant we shouldn't worship money, pop idols and superficial stuff like that it also meant that religions that worship other Gods were sinful. I dont know if other faiths have a similar commandments but I imagine they do.
Basically its teaching you to be against anyone that doesnt believe what you do, which seems contradictory to the rest of what religions teach us, such as love, tollerance and forgiveness.
I'm agnostic myself, shunned the catholic church a long long time ago for being totally contradictory and completely intollerant.

If you were about to walk into a building that was on fire in the inside and you did not know it and a person outside did would you want them to warn you so did not die? I don't want anyone to see things my way...Jesus said that He is the way the truth and the life. It is my prayer that everyone see things the way of The true and living God.

Actually, what you mention is Exactly what we say and believe - "...just say my religion is right for me and your choice is right for you ..." in addition, we try to help those people confused about their own religion to understand it better so that they are more comfortable with their choice of paths.
"...There are so many paths up the Mountain...
...nobody knows all the ways....
...there are so many paths up the mountain...
...but the view from the top...
...is still the same..." **

If you knew what Protestant means. Look for the definition, they love to protest. Since you are at it next, look for meaning Catholic. Then you will understand. Catholic are not condemning any one they just want you to know the truth about their faith and we will give your answers so that will be no misunderstanding, but some people keep at it, condemn every one how don't follow their beliefs.

because reality is based on facts and if someone disagrees with something that is a fact, then they are not living in reality or being blessed with a knowledge of the truth.
The truth it the truth whether its believed or not. Simply saying I dont agree with it, doesnt change the fact that its true. it just places dishonesty in your life.

Dear friend,
I think religious people shouldn't bother that much about people who don't understand them.Coz you are going to be gratified for your worship in your life; feeling relief from any stress, and at the paradise after you die. Also you have to believe that being chosen by god to be religious means you are stronger than others, contributed to God's help. so you got to help others to know the way to God .you mustn't only avoid people who can't understand you coz you are away from them, but also you have to be tolerant when you are near them for advice and they can't understand. Remember you are rich because of god and they are poor being away from God,so you have to give some charity (your advice).
Being religious is a private relation between me and God. my worship and believes are only devoted to God, so I shouldn't care neither for people admiration nor for criticism unless I am a hypocrite showing off or a coward who is not responsible for what he believes in .as long as you don't hurt anybody don't let anybody interfere in this holy relation between you and God. Watch out religious people are envied by those who are not religious
As a Muslim I can tell you how it works. I believe that Islam is a gift for the whole world even those who don't believe in Islam, for what Islam presents for civilization.
Please be patient .I know you heard a lot of bad things about Islam but please try to listen to one Muslim voice.
One of our respected teachers once said" my opinion is right and may turn out to be wrong, and others opinion is wrong and may turn out to be true". In Quran God says to our profit to tell the unbelievers that they have their religion and our profit has his religion.this is Islam tolerance and how it tackled the differences between people. Moreover God says in quran that people are nations (and not only one country) to communicate. And so we are not created to quarrel and set wars.
By the way don't ever believe that wars are set for the sake of religions. Wars are only for political or financial benefits. Religions are only the coverage .religions are now twisted and used for the sake of money. and killers are neither Christians nor Muslims they are beasts using religions for their purposes and promoting for wars on their media channels ;once making fake news , another time ,criticizing religious people ,spreading sex and aberrance, fabricating tapes and ,creating fanciful bin -laden once and killing him another time .their aim is spreading hatred and suspicions among Muslims; the eastern half of the world ,and Christians; the other half.
If they really wanted peace they would have fought terrorism by education and not by more violence and wars.
Finally, I wish we will be friends whatever your religion is. And don't hesitate. just ask god to help you see the truth .
If you are interested email me.
