I think the previous Pope was a good man (I am not Catholic), I think he wished to do good, he cared about relationships with other faiths and tried to live the simple life.

But Rat_singer is the complete opposite, he wants to bring thinks back to the middle ages.

Opinions.

The present Pope was selected, in near record time, precisely because his views on essential issues were so close to those of the previous Pope, and the cardinals wanted to maintain the status quo and protect the Church from any liberal influences. Granted, John Paul II was a tough act to follow. He will go down in history as one of the greatest popes of all time, and time will tell whether Benedict is his equal. But regardless, Benedict is an outstanding theologian in his own right and a long-standing champion of Christian orthodoxy. I expect great things of him.

Take your anti-Catholic rant somewhere else. Better yet, read some of his books before you make a holier-than-thou judgement
