I can't recall -ever- seeing an argument in favour of Christianity that would appeal to an intelligent 21st century human.

Not one argument that would convince an intelligent person that there has to be a supernatural being who controls the fate of humanity.

The argument always seems to fit the following paradigm:

"I believe in it and you should too."

That's it. That's the sum of their rationale.

Given how notorious humans are for talking themselves into believing things (one need only look at all the religions of the world to see how true this is), what intelligent 21st century individual is going to say "ok"?

I am teaching on the Holy Spirit right now and people are asking the questions as to how do I know I received the Holy Spirit, so I was looking for your stories to share during my next teaching. Any help would be great.

I'm a daddy to a wonderful 16-month old girl and since Father's Day is Sunday, I'm curious:

1) Is your Daddy your hero? Why/why not.
2) Do you share a religious belief with him? Which?

Thanks, and "Happy Dad's Day" to the dads out there!

Has anybody heard the phrase used when not referring to gay people?

Haven’t you found that it is usually following by a disgusting slur or gay joke?

Do the people who use this phrase have any clue what the word hypocrisy means?

Have you ever had reason to suspect that ANY who use the phrase actually love the people they are talking about.

Do they not see how much they have in common with the Pharisees when they label people according to their own purity system?

He said in Psalm 22:1: 'Father, why have you forsaken me?' when he was on the cross according to the Bible, which means:

"My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far away from helping me, so far away from the words of my groaning?"

And did you know that Jesus was racist and came only to Jews according to the Bible, this quote being an example:

Matthew 10:5,6
These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles(non-Jews), and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel

Mark 7:27
But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs

Which means:

Jesus said to her, "First, let the children eat all they want. It's not right to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs."

How can Christians expect to bring the non-believers to Christ when they cannot even get along with themselves. Baptists, Catholics, Mormans and Church of Christs, all these sects claim to be Christians and hold up the same Bible, yet they can't agree on most issues, including whether the other sects are truly Christians? If we are to believe John 3:16, then it is truly WHOSOEVER believes and all of the other practices that make up the differences in the sects are superfluous. Show your strength and love for Christ and start working together Christians. Support WHOSOEVER for a change. You will undoubtedly bring more people to your cause.

praying to Jesus idoltry? Read this first. I just read a question about praying to Mary. People tell this person the Mary had Jesus not God. So praying to her is idoltry because for some reason that's putting her ahead God. Well if she had Jesus and not God then isn't praying to Jesus idoltry? Shouldn't you go straight to God? Or are we going to back track to the fact that Jesus IS God. So if Jesus IS God then Mary is the Mother of God?? Make up your mind??

The original question:
Christians: Doesn't the first commandment prove the existence of "other gods"?

I got some really nasty answers from these Christians. I lowered the "g" for Gods simply out of respect for them but it seems they've started lumping EVERYTHING into that category, including cigarettes, "booze" and golden calfs.

So I'm reposting and opening the question to All Faiths.

The commandment basically says: Thou shalt have no other Gods before me. So even God himself acknowledges his brothers and sisters.

No, I'm not talking about man-made gods like tv, or video games, and I'm not talking about demons, idols or other "false gods". I'm talking about Gods, the living, breathing, Lords of the Universe. I'm talking about the Goddess, the Universal Mother, the Commanders of Sea, Storm, Cloud and Earth. I'm talking about all the Gods ever worshipped by Man but not man-made.

Please do not answer if you cannot respect the beliefs of others

When will the Catholic Church admit James and Jose were Jesus' brothers? If the bible says "brothers," shouldn't we accept the infallable word of God as true instead of making up stories about why it isn't? Almost all other theologians have thrown in the towel and admitted the virgin had other kids. When will the Catholic Church?

I still care for him but I am not sure if it is wise to invite him at my birthday parti. I would like to be back with him, but I want to see him realy fighting for the relationship, that would prove me he is realy serious about it. Would it be ok to invite him on my birthday parti?
